lush_Dawg
winter is approaching me fast and after having my bike for the first season i wanna get it faster...i am getting a dune port for sure, just not sure what else i should do? ive searched and read on the 4mm setups but i guess im not understanding the difference between the 4 mil stroker crank and 4 mil cub...im still new banshee and learning but what would give me the biggest power increase and what do i need to do and what should i do...i know i dont want to go anything bigger than a 4 and money really doesnt matter as ill be doing this over the course of the winter...thanks for all the help
sredish
"cub" is specific to the cylinders. so, a +4 cub would be a +4 crank with cub cylinders. tear it all down to the frame. knock all the excess crap off the frame and get the frame PC'ed and then PC the swinger. while the motor's out, send the jugs off for porting, order some pistons and work on the crank while the jugs are being worked on and then put the motor back together. lots of work but you can do it quickly. you can have it down to the frame in a day. it'll take a day to put it back together. totally doable in a few weeks, dependant on the porting turnaround. just think:
Bansh-eman
if you plan on doing a stroker dont have your jugs ported until you are ready. they need to be ported for the extra stroke. theres alot of things you can do to get more power out of that motor. porting will by far give you the most power dollar of rdollar then any mod. get a new head and raise your compression timing plate porting crank pipes carbs reeds lighten the frame keep in mind if you dont have a suspension to hold all that power to the ground it wont matter, and your suspension is probly the most expensive thing to get . along with the new power your going to need a clutch that can handle it. with a new clutch comes worse shifting (in most cases) so your going to want mods to ease that some. possible lockup and over ride tranny. cdi , and coil ... the list is endless. depends what kind of riding you want to do and how much you can spend. just make sure you get the parts that compliment each other. getting a drag pipe and a trail port defeats one another... so make sure you do your research before you start buying shit. lush_Dawg
ive already got the reeds and pipes and got some new tires but thats about it...definitly thought of a new longer swinger as well
Bansh-eman
shocks are what your going to need. but what sucks if you buy them for a stock bike then later you get a longer swinger and longer a arms your going to need to have them revalved and its not cheap. What type of riding do you do and where? And how deep are your pockets. An alky burning drag bike won't do you much good in the trails, just like a 4X4 utility quad isn't gonna do you much good at the drag strip.... lush_Dawg
i have a few trails and a track ive made at my house and duning...thats about all i do--not much drag racing
dajogejr
Get a woods or MX port job, raise the compression a little, advance the timing as well. Whole new ball game... Think about a two into one carb, or possibly an upgrade to 28PWKs. You can have your stockers bored to 28, but the PWKs are a much, much nicer design. lush_Dawg
what kind of suspension should i look at getting?
dajogejr
Whatever you can afford. Ball point pen springs are better than stock...LOL.. Works up front and revalved rear if you're on a budget, then look at Elkas or TCS from there. Then...of course, is wider and offset A Arms, etc. You can spend a little or a TON real quick when it comes to suspension!!!
lush_Dawg
wheres the best place to get a 4mil stroker and cub cylinders from???
dajogejr
Please...please do not buy a cub for track and trail, general duning and hardly any drag racing....you'll be very dissapointed. However, if you're gonna build a bike that will be strictly a dune/drag racer...cub is the cheap way to go.. Keep in mind, you'll need the following: Aftermarket head with domes cut for the motor, or a stocker cut and Oringed for it. Better clutch I suggest a lockout and dunable override as well.... bigger intakes and carbs free flowing pipes (CPI, Shearer, etc.) You already mentioned longer swinger Stiffer suspension longer chain, longer brake line, etc. I've said time and time again...stock tranny and stock clutch are worthless on a 4 mil cub, even on gas....it's a waste of a good motor... Do a search on cub, it's been covered a million times...but I'd recommend a builder that supports the site...
RagunCajun
Since you are getting a port job, get the supporting mods to get every ounce of power you can from it. This means, reeds, pipes to match your riding style etc. port job, pipes etc should all be thought about as a finished product. It all needs to work together in the end to get the best results. After that, id recommend a cheap $200 g-froce axel, revalved/sprung OEM rear shock. Then get some decent a-arms for the front and some nice shocks. Elkas are insanely priced and do you NEED that expensive of a shock? I put a revalved/sprung rear shock on mine, yfz450 front end on mine. I also put a gforce axel. Bike rides 10X better. If i had to do it all over again, i would put suspension before power upgrades. Power is always nice but damnit, having a nice driving bike is so much better IMO. lush_Dawg
why shouldnt i build a cub for duning and track and trail and strictly only for dragging? my trails i ride arent twisty curvy alotta straight aways where we always race down...i just havent done much draf racing at all because everyone's got a 4 stroke!
