carb woes

01 shee stock crank, stock cyls., .80 over, weisco super lights, extremly mild porting, stock head, pro design alum. intakes w/o boost bottle, boysen super stock reeds, 36mm keihins with 250mains needle at top notch, t5's, stock airbox w pro flow, 15 hours on new top end. i think the carbs are too big for my setup. i only ride trails and hills, i have great bottom end mid range is ok, along with top end but when i get on a log hill with no run, at high rpm in first (14,42 gearing) about half way up the carbs seem to sputter out or load up. i have done a 1st through 5th wide open run, and chopped the plugs and they look perfect. i was wondering if anyone has ever run a setup like this and any help? any questions just ask.

in my opinion, that's a huge carb for your motor.

 

but, it should kill your bottom end rather than your top end. 250's seem hella huge to me too

Maybe he's running alky...LOL.

 

Yeah, 250 don't sound right..

Normally 190 to 210 for two into one carb setups (ask snopcynski about that....) and 150 to 160s for dual setups....

gonna have less vacuum with the 36mm and it'll be harder to jet. should still work tho but you'll have to work harder at it.

 

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Since he's running those big carbs, the air velocities will be down, so you may have to make up for it with larger than typical jetting. But 250 is hella huge.

i misread it as a single 36mm. if your running dual 36mm then your going to fight hell getting it jetted right. you'll need a huge main to get it rolling to a decent rpm...

 

pull em off of there and go back to the stockers or sell them and buy some 28s or 30s. then port the motor.
