I hear alot of different opinions on what is faster, honda 450r, or a banshee, I lost to a 450r, but beleive that is my lack of skills, what are the best mods that i can make to outrun this 450r? current mods are tookmey t6, jet / air cleeaner, power reeds, and of course boost bottle

Those new 450cc fourstrokes are pretty fast.

You'll probably need to do a bit more work on the intake side.

Engines are basically air pumps, more air/fuel in and out = more power.

mill the head .020 and advance your timing

last weekend i raced my buddies 05 450r, he has a yoshimura pipe and i think thats it, and we were dead even until he topped out.

we both had passengers on and it was a rolling start in 4th gear so it wasnt really a great race

heavier flywheel will help with spin but won't let it rev as good, IMO. How are you launching, 1st or 2nd gear. I'd say try to gear up your front sprocket to a 15t and launch second gear. Gearing up will help the spin out of the hole and let you cover more ground quicker and that'll help against the 450 because he's going to get you out of the hole so this will help you overcome that. Compression is a plus, either get your head milled (cheap) or get a Noss head (better route but more $$$). The next step would be some porting, that will help in the power dept. A LOT. If your not getting him now, I doubt the addition of +4 timing is really going to make much difference. It's a nice mod, makes the motor snappier for race setup but not sure it does much on the overall power/accel deal.

What kind / size of tires and wheels are you currently running in the rear?

What are the mods to the 450r? That will help us figure out what to do to get him? The 450r's are typically slower "out of the box" that the other 450s but can be made to run just as fast as any of the others... I'm pushing 58hp with mine and it takes a pretty strong Banshee to stay in line with me; but I have A LOT of time and effort put into the motor.

To sum up, for what you have now:

1) Gear the front sprocket to a 15t

2) Get some rear tires that will hook up better

3) Practice, practice, practice your 2nd gear launches

4) Ready for more power : Compression and porting

cv i had those same bolt ons and lost as well. Then i got ported/flywheel lighened with supporting mods. Now, i win. Even if they get me off the line, i catch them up by the end of 5th. And that's with spinning like crazy.

In all honesty, just enjoy your bike. Someone will always be faster. 450's arent slow. That's just a factor. Takes more than bolt ons for a shee to beat them if they can drive. This subject has been beaten to death. Send your juggs to flotek when you are ready to be ported. I got some video on here of me racing with my ported shee and it was even tuned a little bad haha.

I have stock tires, I have only had the bike for three months and wanted to wear the old tires out before I get new. the 450r is supposed to be stock, but soon to add performance cam/pipes/filter. I have never tried to take off in 2nd, and I will try the 15tooth. Thanks for the info. I am porting in a couple of months if he spanks me next time!

If your bogging off the line your not giving it enough throttle, I hold my throttle pinned and dump it with a little feathering, When I did my timing advance and v-force reeds, the power delivery of the bike was alot different, whether is gave me a bunch of HP who knows, but the seat of the pants dyno approved.

first off, you get crap hookup on the stock tires.... get some Holeshot MXR6s in a 19" or if you need a 20" get some 6 ply Holeshots or the iRazrs hook up well on a Banshee. the 6 ply will get you a tad more weight and help with the launch. you sure he doesn't have an HRC kit in it? I just have a hard time believing he's bone stock and beating a piped banshee. the gearing on your end will help but you need some tires to. do that and see what happens. if he has stock cam, then the new more agressive cam is going to wake him up pretty good.

i used to catch up when it was too late with bolt ons...that's IF i caught up. I usualy didnt. I used to spin like crazy with my almost new 19" holeshots. The holeshot is so vitalin a drag, especialy against them 450s which hook up way better.

Just get a port job. you can have a shitty take off and still catch up and pass them.

I just got some Kenda Knarlys and cut every other row of knobs off. They hook amazing on for dirt/grass.
