CPI's vs T5's..

I've been thinking of switching from T5's to a set of CPI inframes. I have a FAST aggressive dune port, stock stroke crank. cool head with 20cc domes, and 30mm keihins (bored out 28mm PWK's). I wanna know three things..

 

1. how hard will it be to get at the sparkplugs with the CPI's

2. will i notice an apreciable power gain

3. and what kind of pwerband are the CPI's gonna have

You might want to talk to bansheeDan after this weekend. He just made the switch from T5's to CPI's

He'll have some seat time with them and maybe a few time slips. To compare them agains the T5's

 

I know he said he took it down the street really quick and it was a "whole new beast"

I would stick to your T-5s. I am not a huge CPI fan, they are not as good as shearers for a drag pipe, and they make getting to the plugs a bitch. I have only seen 1 bike that impressed me with CPIs and thats Rippens banshee.... it rips up the hillclimbs with CPIs.

I'm in a different boat.. I've owned both and I didn't like the delivery of the T5's..They wer eon the bike when i bought it and I sold them within the first month.. I perfered my DMC 916's over my T5's.. The plugs actually are easy once you figure it out.. You stick your arm in the opening in the loop they make and there is plenty of room.. Besides the fitment(which the T5's weren't that great either) I really liked my CPI's.. It isn't a thorough comparison as my T5's were on a stock motor and my CPI's were on a dune port motor but i really liked my CPI's alot better than my T5's.. This is just my opinion of course but i have owned Shearer, CPI, DMC 916's, LRD, FMF and T5's..

I currently have a bike with both. The T-5 bike is stock and the CPI bike is ported. Both great pipes. Toomeys sound better IMO. Cant comment much on any type of performance comparasion as they are on completely different motors. As far as spark plugs go, its easy to get at them. Just go in from the front , piece of cake. Unless your getting it ported and your builder tells you that you NEED the CPI's just stick with the T-5's. They really are a great pipe.

its dune ported by FAST, and hes told me that he's went from t5's to cpi's on a few motors that are very similar to mine and it made a decent difference.

 

I was just contemplating cuz the t5's are start to get really haggard, and figured if i get new pipes i might as well get somethin a lil better..

Understood. If you are getting new pipes anyway, CPI's are a good choice. I just bought another set from NYUK and put them on the 2002 ported bike we have. Took off the SST's that were on there. With a dune port and if Jeff said you'll see a difference AND you need new pipes anyway then its a no brainer. Unless you wanna go with some Shearers.

I too have a F.A.S.T. dune ported bike, but with a 4mill hot rods crank and 35 pwks.

I do not have any experience with T5's. But IMO, they look just like the FMF fattys

I had a long time ago. I would suggest some shearers instead of the CPI's.

I was leanin toward the CPI's cuz i was told they had better midrange than shearer. And since i do ride desert with this bike and its not purely a drag/dune bike, i would like to retain some midrange power..

I just put my shearers on today and rode the bike. I had CPI;s on prior to switching to the shearers.

I honestly didnt feel much difference in low and midrange. Might be the extra 4mill and 35 pwks.

There is deffinately more top end too but, every bike is different though.

I would seriously consult Jeffrey some more before throwing down some coin.
