Bansh-eman
i know its not right spot, but this will get everyones attention. if you could do these two problems and explain how you did it. 1/6 x 36 - 7 -------------- 4 + 1/5 x 25 that would read out (1 over 6 x 36 - 7) Over ( 4 + 1 over 5 x 25) jus casue i cant make it look exactly the same on the forums the second would be -5^2 - 10 x (-5) + 5 ----------------------- -5^2 + 2 x (-5) - 1 -5^2 means negitive 5 squared the ^ denotes exponant. SoCalinIt
Is the first answer -0.988 and I think the second one is... 105 Right???
Bansh-eman
Is the first answer -0.988 and I think the second one is... 105 Right??? not according to the options... i should have said that Evaluate the expression of 1/6 x 36 - 7 -------------- 4 + 1/5 x 25 and Evaluate the expression for the given value of the variable. -5^2 - 10 x (-5) + 5 ----------------------- -5^2 + 2 x (-5) - 1 the possible anwers are 13/9 , 1, -1/9, 1/9 and the second possibles are 40/7, 5, -10/7, -40/
Bansh-eman
ok so 1/6 x 36 - 7 -------------- 4 + 1/5 x 25 was -1/9 now i got to figure out the other edit: i think the second is 40/7.... anyone else get the same or anything differant? Bansh-eman
those where correct that i posted... but i guess i need to look over a few other thing casue i got some of what i thought where ez ones wrong

Bansh-eman
Yeah.... I have no idea. lol thats how i felt. and this is the very beginning of the math. its going to get alot harder and i havent been in highschool for a little bit of time now
BellicoseBanshee
not according to the options...i should have said that Evaluate the expression of 1/6 x 36 - 7 -------------- 4 + 1/5 x 25 and Evaluate the expression for the given value of the variable. -5^2 - 10 x (-5) + 5 ----------------------- -5^2 + 2 x (-5) - 1 the possible anwers are 13/9 , 1, -1/9, 1/9 and the second possibles are 40/7, 5, -10/7, -40/7 The key here is order of operations: () first, then X and /, then + and - . And also remember (a/B)/(c/d) is equivalent to (a/B) x (d/c). Looks like you might have those down.

First one is -1/9 Top: 1/6x36=6 minus 7 = -1 Bottom: 1/5x25=5 plus 4 = 9 so, -1/9 Second one is 40/7 Top: -5 squared is 25 minus (-50) = 75 +5 =80 (the two negatives mean you add the 25 and 50, -(-50) is same as +50) Bottom: -5 squared is 25 plus (-10) = 15 -1 =14 (adding the negative 10 is same as subtraction) Now you have 80/14, when simplified as far as it can go you get 40/7 (just divide by 2) Hope that made some sense EDIT: I just read the rest of the other posts and saw you figured it out. It actually took me a second, I haven't done math in a while and the last was all calc so I forget how to do fractions and the order of operations lol. Bansh-eman
yea i havent done any math in almost 7 years, given this is only highschool lvl mah its hard to remeber all the equations and shit from 7 years ago....
SoCalinIt
Yeah... I'm lost man! I have not done math in years... My wife is really good at that sh!t, but she is a teacher.

Statistics are actually kind of fun, or atleast I think so. It's Statics that is the real bitch. Between Statics and multi-diff. calculus I am pretty sure I killed more brain cells than I did retain information to fill them. :geek:
