38mm pwk ok for single carb setup?

I have a stage 4 single carb set up on my bike right now and am wondering if a 38mm pwk is a good fit for it. I recently bought the bike and it has a pj on it that I hate. the throttle adjust is done by turning the choke knob up and down, its a pain in the ass. Any thoughts on the 38mm?

I persoanlly run a pwk 35mm. I dont really see a need for a 38mm unless the bike is heavily built. We run the 4 mills with 35's, and 36's in the sand.

I wanted a 35 but I am getting this one for next to nothing so I figured it would be ok. Even if there is no need for it , will it perform ok or not?

Honestly, you adjust the idle by the choke knob, can it really be that bad?

If you're getting a 38mm for next to nothing, it sure won't hurt to try it, as long as you can sell it for what you have into it or turn a small profit, I see no reason not to at least give it a shot.

is it a 38mm keihin, mikuni., lectron?

Sorry its a keihn 38mm pwk. The choke adjust is a pain believe it or not. It seems to be very touchy and it adjusts itself a little while riding from the vibration. It is just old and I would like to try something new. Any jetting ideas for it? I trail ride mainly. It has a dynaport 2 into 1 pipe, I am not sure of engine mods (prev. owner had no idea) but it has at least differnt domes because it is supposed to run on 110 fuel. I was told it will do 92 mph (gps reading) So where would be a good place to start with the jetting?

Snop is the man to talk to for that question....

I'm sure his 35 jetting isn't WAY off compared to what you'll need to run.

Generally a lot larger main...and a few up on the pilot compared to running a pair of them...

But cant you run a 38 and just smaller mains and pilots and be the same. Wouldn't a 35 on a 190 main be pretty close to ths same as a 38 on a 160. Or there about, I would just think it would give you some room to grow. But I run a 35 and like it,

NOOOOOO....

You jet the bike according to it's fuel and air needs, regardless of the size of the carb.

Putting smaller jets in the carb does not make it act like a smaller carb...it leans out your air/fuel ratio...and things go BOOM....

Smaller engines in general....don't have the intake velocity to make good use of a larger carb.

So if I run a 35 with a 190 main and decided to run a 38 on the same build I would still run a 190 main? I would think a bigger carb would increace the velocity so your main would drop some. Just wondering and learning. I am considering going to dual 33's which would seam to almost double my carboration intake compared to the single 35.

Yeah, I have a dynoport pipe and a dynoport port job.

Tell me this now, where are you at main, needle, clip, pilot jet wise with the 34 pj?

I bought this bike from a guy that knew nothing about it or any mods that were done to it. I am trying to figure out what has been done to it, but I have not done so with the current jetting, so I have no idea. i will try to find out. So are u guys saying going with a 38mm could damage my engine?

No, it wont damage the engine. Just get it and lets try it out since you said it was cheap. I would like you to pull the carb apart and check the jetting and needle stuff in your current carb though. Does it run pretty good right now?

It runs good. The day after a ride it takes a while to get it started. The plugs get a little discolored but not to bad. It is hard to get it to sit and idle no matter what I do to it. I will take it apart this weekend and see what it has in it. Thanks for the help.
