J-Madd
I'm probably gonna get an override (non duneable) tranny. I thought I had heard that you can spilt the cases to remove the transmission and shift drum without taking the top end apart. Just checking to see if this is true or not. I mostly drag race with this motor and not sure about a duneable and having to send my bottom case off for a few weeks......I have 2 races to go to in the next month and need it done before then. Thanks.
wesw
yes just flip your motor over with the head being down. then split the cases.
J-Madd
Thanks, that's what I thought. About riding with an override.........if your just lugging it to get to the track or drag racing area, how do you manage to do that without damaging the shift forks? Say I'm putting along in first gear and have to let off of the gas, so I pull in the clutch. When I get ready to accelerate again, do I have to rev it up and pop the clutch to keep from back loading the transmission?
Bansh-eman
you talking about a standard over ride or dunebale?
locogato11283
i think it would be a lot easier to just take it all apart. if you flip the motor over how are you gonna hold everything in there in the right place? seems like a recipe foir disaster to me. just take the extra time and do it right. You're putting a lockup on while you're at it, right??
370banshee
i didn;t have to send my case out for my 1-5 nuetral down duneable either...
370banshee
i can;t beleive i'm sayign this but...... i agree with tyler... take it apart and do it... i can see the shift fork placement on the gear clusters being a pain in the ass.... and really whats it take to pop the top end off of it.... 10 nuts in the head.... 8 for the cylinders..... might take an extra 20 mins... leave the reedcages and intake on the cylinders... J-Madd
When I searched it was mentioned that the cases needed to be sent out for the duneable override so it could be tested......maybe that depends on who built it??. Now that the duneables have been around a little while, are they holding up and do they shift as well as the full overrides? I was recently told that the duneables in general don't shift as well and aren't the way to go if you're mainly drag racing. I already have a lockup, and it shifts ok now, but I'm going to alcohol any day. Thanks.
dajogejr
Somewhere between 60 to 80 passes on mine, 10 mil on alky....all sand, no problems. 2 quarts of ATF Type F, change it every other race weekend...so, after every 30 passes or so. I probably could wait longer, but...a few bucks for a quart of tranny fluid.... It's still red when I drain it. No, no case modification is necessary for a dunable. Thanks. go for the dunable neutral down. thats what i have in mine and all i do is 500ft. dirt drags. got mine cut by wcr but if you don't stay on there a$$ it will take for ever, but its been good so far and i beat the shit out of it. as for getting your cases cut they didn't do that but jim from passions wanted me to send my case with it if he did it. so guess its all in wh does it. wesw
you can put the motor back together just put the tranny in the bottom half first. then put the top end on. just make sure every thing is lined up. as for sending the case out, i would have suggested that to get the springs setup on teh shift drum. the forks are to be adjusted so they fit in the shift drum and dont rub on it constantly. thats why builders ask for you bottom case.
