for thoes who have ridden on many dunes, how does silver lake and dunes, MI compare. that is all i have been to and i think it awsome, but not big enough

We're lucky to have it...considering the East Coast guys have nothing like it.

But other dunes blow 'em away....

We don't have nearly the size of land to ride on as other dunes throughout the country...

There is a lot more dunes than what we are allowed to ride on at Silver lake. Just look at an aerial photo of the Silver Lake area. There used to be one at that little convenient store at the " Y " intersection and the total dunes area is quite big, but our state is extremely GAY !, and has everybody packed in a small portion of what's there.

That would be one thing that could help boost our states economy, is to expand the dunes to more riding area and or even opening up Sleeping Bear dunes for ORV use, hell, even open the designated snowmobile trails up for ORV use. We would have alot more people coming here to ride and spending money.

Seems like our STUPID FUCKIN' state would do damn near anything to get the economy back up and rollin' , but hell no we are a one state depression arround here. We have had some really awesome governors here, mostly the last and present. :shoothead: I'm sure our wonderful auto industry has a tad bit to do with it.

Seems like our states idea of boosting the economy, is charging more at the gas pumps. This fuckin' place is rediculous.

As for the sparkies, what the hell you gonna catch on fire out in the sand dunes ?, possibly a vehicle or ORV, big fuckin' deal.

the state is making money off the other half by leaseing it to mac dune rides. and they get already got all our money for state park stickers, alowing us to use it would lose them money. which sucks and puts more peoples lives in more danger from packing us in there like sardeans.

My point being that it would draw more riders from our state an neighboring states to come ride the dunes. Don't get me wrong, I love Silver lake, but after riding there for several consecutive years the place does start to get boring, and crowded.

If they opened up the rest of the dunes, it would bring more people to this state to ride them, thus bringing / spending more money.

Funny...RZ...the UP is starting to catch on.

They are opening up snowmobile trails, even letting riders ride the shoulder of certain roads on ATVs.

Their economy is absolute shit for 9 months of the year without the snowmobilers/hunters...so, they've realized the ATV crowd rides a lot more...and they're gonna get some revenue from it.

I can remember back in the day you could ride your shit just about anywhere....

We used to own property in Meridith. A speck on the map, between Houghton Lake and Gladwin on M18.

We'd ride into town for breakfast, lunch...dinner, go to the drive in movie theater, hit the general store for supplies, etc.

Cops and DNR would wave and say hi. If they saw you parked somewhere, they'd chat about weather, sports, events, etc.

Now...they're handing you a ticket if you're lucky, if not...they're hauling your bike away.

Now...you got jack asses posting vids on the internet running from the cops, through city streets, etc., thinking they're cool and ruining it for all of us...

Throw a helmet on, keep it off road. You wanna tear the street up, grow balls and buy a bike...

End of rant...LOL.

Funny you mentioned Meredith Dave; my buddy has a little cabin up there. We used to ride there a lot...BUT...

We got a couple of 85 dollar fines two years ago from the DNR, for riding on a set of two-tracks that we ended up on when we picked the wrong direction of a fork in the trail off the Denton loop. The officer was going to let us off when we said we were lost, until he asked for our licenses and realized we were out-of-towners...cha-ching $$$$

The best part was when we were in Gladwin later that night going to a local bar to watch the NASCAR race, a man and a woman came out of the party store across the street each with two cases of beer which they strapped to the racks of their 4x4 quads and went driving down the road (M-18 I think) with no helmets on...oh but they're locals so they don't get messed with. :shoothead:

This year my buddy
