Not to be an asshole or any thing but if you called Tim @ Tiatan Racing and are sure it is the needle because he said thats what it was why didnt you just ask him what needle to try ????

My 421 had 35 PKWs, CEL needles, clip in the middle spot, with 158s at 8500 feet. Was just a touch lean with the 155s at that altitude.

Alright dude, what Tim told me is that the way my motor was acting was because of my needles being to big in diameter! He said that the PJs suck at tuning and he uses 35 PWKs or bigger only.... and does not do pjs often.... i had a 172main in it and it was still lean as hell, no air leaks or anything.. and when i told him that he said it was my needle and to get opinions on my carbs... and he also said that in the PWKs he uses CELs on mid clip but that is a totally different carb.... but all i was looking for were opinions not smart ass remarks... and thank you to the ones who did what the post asked for...

pj and pwk use the same jetting spec they are basically the same carb just have different idle adjustments.

the info i gave earlier is what i used to run with my pjs. ran good, shearers at 1000ft.

also what needle were you running that tim suggested???

Well I was just askin you a question ..not making smart ass remarks ....but now that you have opened the fuckin door here goes ...You are the one that said you know its the needle cause the guy at titan racing told you thats what it was.,,,you have in your signature 421 cubby by Titan racing ,,,,the point I was trying to make was if you are that confident in your builder he should be able to help you with getting your problem fixed...and also its not saying much for a builder when they tell you to get opinions on your carbs if they have any clue to what they are doing they know what works best with what they build...unless you are just saying 421 cubby by Titan racing and meaning you bought a few parts from them and did the motor yourself ...that could explain a few things....and goin from a 34pj to a 35pwk is still not going to throw your jetting off as far as you are my opinion if you are running lean with a 172 main in a 421 cub you have a leak some where .....

i was running CGL's... but Tim had suggested to get opinions like i said earlier... and man i really appreciate your willingness to help... Tim said my main jets would affect my leaness or richness at a certain point because my needle was restricting the flow... so yeah i it is running lean with those big ass jets.... ive checked for leaks and cant find any so im just going to change my needles and if that dont help then prob just tear it down and redo it again maybe missed something earlier... but thanks for all your help and let me know what you think about those needles.... my elevation is 2000

yeah compared to the other needles suggested cgl needles are leaner for sure.

i would suggest a dek, del and go from there.

like i said my jetting was for 1000ft. 48-50 pilots, mid, 150-155 should be close for 2000ft. do soem plug chops.

hope this helps.

WESW deffinatly knows his PJ's. He helped me out when I was running them. I would try a DEK like wesw said.

The middle letter is the lenght of the needle. CGL is longer than the DEK. So the middle clip in the DEK is goin to be richer than the Middle clip in the CGL.

DRI has a great write up about tuning Keihin Carbs. They explain keihins lettering system for needles. and all kinds of good info. Deffinatly book mark this page. You will be reading it more than once.
