It does not appear that you are way off. It appears that I posted up a link without reading the page first. Tiny Tach makes a teach that looks just like those, but refreshes at .001Hz. That is not on their site anymore I guess. They were selling it has a Briggs & Stratton labeled racing instrument as well.

Apparently I am not any help with the go kart style solution.

For all of you that missed my typo, I meant .001MHz. :geek:

Dave, I found you a shift light:

Who the hell has time to look at a tach. LOL. I'd be all fucked up and wrapped around something if I even thought about looking at a tach. :yelrotflmao:

you dont have to look at the tach, its all about having the memory read back so you can hit it and it will store how ever many "laps" so after your run you can see the rpms that where stored. they are good for track racing casue you want your rpms going in a corner and rpms coming out to help gearing. might not be as helpful on a strip but im sure it would come into use

Corner? they have corners in drag racing? Shit...I'm screwed....LOL.

I think it'll be helpful to go by a light and shift, rather than by feel which can be inconsistent at times...plus another screaming loud bike next to you can make it hard to hear your own motor and "feel" how it's pulling....

yea you didnt hear about those new 90 degree turns they added at the 150 foot mark?

a light is the way to go, how ever if your hearing the guy next to yours motor over the one under you then u got problems lol , that of course is assuming that he isnt running OOF that are pointing right at you

ya i worka ta small engine shop and we have one of those tiny tach things. they work good for setting the governor or something like that but it is frustrating to rev the engine and it is already slowing down before the tach shows anything.

if there is one that reads quicker that would be a good option though.

i think i would rather have an analog guage though

That is absolutely fantastic! Other than staging at a drag strip, that's really all a tach is good for, past that you would have to move up to a DAQ system. A memory is a great way to get the job done, especially if you have stop watched timing points for the track already mapped out. Idiot light or with respect to open wheel cars, a series of idiot lights are the way to go. One of the electronic guys from the TRD nerdery wrote a paper on reposne time ot a number vs. a light. The response to a bright, overwhelming light was much faster (were talking about .5Hz). It's interesting if you're into that sort of thing otherwise it's probably boring. :geek:

they have better tachs that we used that will show the actuall rpms and not 2 sec refresh... i dont feel like looking around for it right now though... they are black and red with 2 lcd displays one for rpm one for temp.

I swear those are the Tiny Tachs I was thinking of. Maybe there are two Tiny Tach companys?

no the one im thinkin of are not the tiny ones. they are about the size of two credit cards turned sideways and stacked on top of each other. they mount on rubber backets in the center of the steering wheel and have a small botton on the right side to store the memory

ive also been considering getting one that you attach to the spark plug wire.

there is the trail tech vapor computer. that has a tach, not sure how it hooks up but it works without anything else. it also has a speedo, temp guage, and it shows your top speed and all that cool stuff

i have the vapor on my bike and i love it.......

only drawback of the vapor is it needs 12v for the backlighting and shift lights to work (yes it has shift lights too)

the tach hooks up by wrapping the lead from the unit around 1 of the plug wires...and then set the pulse per revolutionon the unit to 2 for the shee.

i used a motorcycle storage battery for mine totally independant of the banshee elec. system

only had to charge it 2 times this season so far.

and as far as looking at a tach while youre on the bike ...forget it.

youll end up in a tree like i almost did....LMAO

but you can see the shift lights blinking easily so thats not a big issue there.

for the money the vapor is the way to go IMO.

not only that trail tech's customer service is second to none!

Yeah, I know what you're talking about now. That's not what I was thinking of.
