Where is the kick?

Recommended Posts

The shee used to always surprise me when I would get on it but I think something has slowly gone wrong because It doesnt have that effect anymore... you know, that kick. It runs fine but damn, my cousins stock 450 just kicks my ass and I can never beat him; he always beats me by at least 2 bikes. I have noticed it but I guess I have been trying to convince myself that nothing is wrong. The only thing I changed were the jets, and I lowered them one size because of my altitude; I noticed the lag before hand.

Any ideas?

You would be suprised. My wifes bike is piped, coolhead, reeds and a timing plate and is neck and neck with my Raptor 700. I would get a coolhead, reeds, and a timing plate for a start. That may get you ahead. Yamaha has done their homework on the YFZ and raptor, they can be a handful to beat.

Listen to theshee i was in your same situation when running with 450s but i added pipes and a few other things and i'm killing them. Ofcourse i have alot more done than just pipes but your best bolt on performance to start out with would be pipes.

Nothing is wrong with your bike, 450's are faster bolt on for bolt on. Go beyond that, and the shee starts the shine.

stop all this compression nonsense and get a port job. You would shit your pants if you knew how much harder a ported shee pulls.

get a port job(with supporting mods)

lightened flywheel

I was in your situation. I had t'6 pipes, noss head w/ 21cc domes, vf3 reeds and a few small other goodies. I was right behind the 450's like you are. I got a port job by flotek, sold my t6 pipes(to a fellow hq'er), got some t5's, adjustable timing plate, 20cc domes etc. While i was at it, i put a new top end in. You talk about haul some ass now!

I havent raced any other bikes yet but i can care less if i am faster. I wanted a fun playbike and that's what i have.

What else you hiding under there? hehe

But in all serious, I have all the stuff besides a port that these guys are talking about and I am still about neck and neck with piped YFZ's, But I weigh 250 if I was 160ish I would be walking them.

your mods say that you have pipes and jets so you should already have your air box lid off,all of the other mods will help alot but if you dont have a ton of money maybe start with a k&n,or new rear tires, that should help.
