how much is this worth?

Recommended Posts

There is this shee for sale by my house, and i'm interested in buying one, but I didn't know what it would be worth by what he has on it. Here are the details... 97 (white) banshee, just had a new topend put in and broken in (guy said compression is 150). Newer carbs, still stock though. He said the clutch has new springs, fibers and plates. He said that the only thing wrong with it is it's burning some oil that he thinks is an internal seal. Anyone have some advice to what this thing is worth, or if the oil thing is serious for that matter? Thanks a lot in advance, i'm new to the forums.

the quad looks mostly stock and seems fine (although i dont see banshees every day either). I just saw it for about 5 minutes, the guy didn't mention any aftermarket pipes or jetting, anything like that. I'll stop by again shortly and check for pipes, but otherwise he wants 1600 OBO for it, how much would it cost/take in time to fix the oil leaking problem?

if oil from the gears is leaking into the lower crank area it has nothing to do with the crank seals and everything to do with the case not making a seal. the crank bearings and seals are no where near the gear oil.... You'll have to split the cases and see whats going on.

Besides how the hell can he tell if it's smoking engine oil or 2stroke premix..... he must have a better nose than most drug dogs....!!!!!

IMO... the price of the Banshee seems very good, but you have think of the market value for Banshee's in your area. SoCal people pay a hell of a lot more then people in the mid west. Think about that! If the Banshee looks in overall good condition, I'd say pick it up... I never listen to people that say they have this mod and that mod done to the inside of the engine (you can not see these mods, are they really done?) Any how... If you like the Banshee, buy it... If you think that it's going to be a bucket of sh!t, don't! As for the "burning oil" every two stroke burns oil... right? LOL

I hope that you end up getting the Shee... You'll never ride another bike again!

Welcome to the HQ man! Good luck!

It can have everything to do with the right crank seal, because that's what keeps the gear oil out of the motor. Evidently you haven't had a Banshee lower end apart, or you would know this. The cases meet, at the middle of both crank seals. Trans fluid getting into the crankcase, will cause the right side to smoke really bad, plus it will smell a lot different.

Update, i'm picking the quad up today hopefully, if not monday. There are no pipes or jetting, anything big. 1400 bucks, thanks to bansheekid's advice. He says he can tell the crank oil is being burned b/c the dipstick will read lower after he goes on a long ride, and the clutchside pipe is wet with oil. Plus he says he can smell the difference supposedly :ermm: and can't forget the fouled plugs... Does this throw off an alarm to anyone before I pick it up? He also used Klotz oil. keep any posts coming

If you are down to take the motor out of the frame and split the cases and change out the seals I would say go for it. If it was me I would just because its not that hard to split the cases if you have a clymer manual it will walk you thru it and you could always ask the people on this board for help. I think for 1400 its not to bad of a price.

IMO, the price is to high for you unless you can replace the crank yourself. From what I remember (It has been a while)a crank alone will set you back $300-$400.

In the last 6 months I have seen a quite a few good looking banshees for sale ~$2000 around West MI. They dont seem to move as easily now that the 4 strokes are taking over.
