fracas
I just bored out my cylinders and Im ready to put everything back together. I dont know the Tq spec's for the Head Bolts or Cylinder Bolts. If any of you know the spec's or a Link to a site, it would help me out alot. And is there a special way to turn the nuts? Or a certain way to tighten the bolts? I have a 01 Banshee. Edited June 6, 2007 by fracas
Snopczynski
8mm bolt 20-23 ft lbs (head and cylinders). 6mm bolt 7 ft lbs (intake bolts) Dont forget to retorque the head after about .5 hour of riding.
fracas
Do I need to use copper seal on the metal gasket?
Snopczynski
I would if you have any pitting on the cylinders, the case or on the head sealing area. Otherwise it should be ok, dont forget to retorque the head. Dont forget to make sure the rubber plugs are in the bottom of the cylinders. fracas
Not sure on the plugs. Do you have any pix?
swrbansheeboy
if you flip your cylinders upside down you will see a black rubber plug ( about 3/4" x 2 1/2") on the exhaust side between the bolt holes. the two black plugs on the top in this pic... badassbanshee479
if its a stock head the torque sequence is numbered on it. Just follow the sequence and step torque it up to 22 ft lbs. start at like 10 then 15 or so, then final torque it to 22.
fracas
Where is the torque sequence stamped on the motor? And What are the Rubber plugs for?
badassbanshee479
if you look at the stock head there are numbers next to the nuts, they are raised numbers going from 1-10. The rubber plugs keep the coolant off of the base gaskets.
fracas
Is there a torque sequence on the cylinders bolts?
badassbanshee479
I always just tighten mine down in a criss cross pattern. Its hard to torque the cylinder nuts with out a crows foot! I tighten mine down snug and run um.
fracas
Is there anything special I need to do to the rings while sliding them into the Cylinder? And when I start the bike the first time what do I need to listen for/Look for if there is a problem?
Snopczynski
just make sure the rings are in the lands on the pistons, and put the ring gaps where they need to be on the retainers on the piston. If you start it and it makes any noise that it didn't use to make, shut it off.
fracas
Well the person that bored my cylinders also set the rings for me. I wasnt sure on any of it. This is my first time tearing down a 2 stroke motor. I mean. I work on Honda / Acura motors all day long. But I know they are different from a motorcycle or atv motor. So Thats why Im asking all these questions.
dajogejr
Each piston ring groove has a little pin, normally they're on the intake side...and about an inch apart from each other. If you look at each ring on the open end, it looks like an L of sort. The ring must close over this pin in the piston ring groove..... I use the snug 'em on the bottom cylinders too...but since this is your first two stroke, get a crows foot and torque 'em down... As badass said, the stock head has numbers on it for torque sequence... really...buy yourself a clymers manual. Not only are all the specs like this listed, but pictures are readily available too...it'll be your best friend before you know it!!
