The shifter really does not have adjustment to it. Are you maybe talking about the clutch? You mentioned the shift star so I am just thinking about what you might be talking about. MDS2106
Don, that little adjustment bolt has a lobe on it,as you turn it in or out it hits up against one of the sides of that spring looking thing on the shift shaft and slighly rotates the shaft up or down to make the adjustment.I have seen a shaft and adjustment screw so worn that the claw could not be centered with the pins on the star.My son's banshee had came out of adjustment[my fault] and he could not shift to second when dragracing. It would shift fine when shifting normal but when it had a load he had a hell of a time finding secong gear. bentvalve
well im guessing that i do need the adjuster then, cause if i move it, it does not move up or down. where could i get one of these guys? don
MDS2106
Pull the screw and also take a look at the spring on the shift shaft to check for wear.it only takes a slight bit of wear to make a difference in adjustment. The dealership is where I bought mine ,#3 and#4 on the parts diagram http://216.37.204.203/Yamaha_OEM/YamahaATV...p;A=168&B=8 Edited May 17, 2007 by MDS2106
bentvalve
well it moves ever so slightly up and down, but there is so much slop in the shift shaft it does not do any good. then again i can play with it and shift it a few times and then it gets caught up in the middle of a gear(until i spin tranny) then it will click in that gear. is that normal?( i know the tranny is moving all of the time so that might be ok??) i just thought that when i shift it and have pressure on the sprocket or tranny it would just shift, not so.. any ideas?? thanks don Edited May 17, 2007 by bentvalve

MDS2106
Put the bike in any gear and center the pegs of the star with the claw on the shift shaft. If you cannot get it to center it, change that shit. The trans will kinda hang in between gears when you try to shift more than one gear while sitting still.Thats like sometimes you have to rock the bike to find neutral if someone kills it in the upper gears.
