Got a problem here fellas

Recommended Posts

ok heres the story.. when i got my banshee, it ran like shit.. so me and my dad, diassembled the whole engine, and cleaned it.. etc. I removed the tors, and cleaned the carbs.. nothing. ran like shit. But.. me and my dad.. in a last futile effort.. switched the reed cages. Then it ran great.. well.. much better.. but it has no reed stoppers! I need some, so, it being, to the best of my knowledge, a totally stock banshee, i order some stock reeds, and stock reed stoppers.. they get here.. and they dont fit... i mean like.. something is seriously off here.. so im thinking.. that i might have aftermarket reed cages...but they looks stock, and i have no idea what it is. Can someone please tell me what these things are? so i can order the stoppers? thx. i included pics of the original reeds on the cage, the ones a ordred and the new reed stoppers, and the wierd blue plate thats was on it... tell me what this crap is people! the ones on there had 3 screws.. the ones i got have 2... sry for the shitty photos....

You dont have to run stopers on aftermarket reeds. At least I have never seen anyone do it before. Could you explain what your shee is doing to make you believe that the stopers have to be in place to make it run better. I have been told that a cracked reed will make it run like shit. Try holding them up to the light to look for small cracks and make sure they sit flat on the cages.

no u see... it ran like shit.. so i switched the reed cages cause it was running on one side, so i figured.. hey, maybe its the reeds.. i switched them, and now it runs good on both sides... but i was told that u need to run stoppers.. so i ordered the stoppers.. and said.. hell... why not get reeds... but i ordered stock ones. Cause as far as i know.. the cages are stock.. but the stock reeds dont fit on the cage.. meaning that the cage has been modified or its aftermarket... i was hoping someone could tell me what was what on my reed and cages... its running awsome now, its just.. id like to know where these cages came from.. cause obviously theyre not stock. u can see in the photos.. the used ones, i had on there, have 3 holes for screws, as does the cage.. but.. the stock ones i got.. only 2 holes.. and they dont line up.. meaning.. aftemarket cage? but what kind? all the paint been scratched off..... help?

those are definatly not stock banshee cages. stock cages have 2 holes just like your new reeds and stoppers. as to what cages you have, i noticed that you said that you and your dad replaced the cages. where did you guys get the cages? and if you got them from someone else do they know where they came from? the only thing i can think of would be that they are from the rdz350 street bike motor that was the engine they modled the banshee off of but i have no first had knowledge of these motors so it's just a guess. with most aftermarket reeds you end up replacing the stoppers with thin flat bars like the ones you posted to keep the screws from grinding into the reed's. just some food for thought, could it be that you had an air leak at one of your reed cage gaskets and when you swapped them you got rid of the air leak? just thinking to myself on that one....if the bike seems to be running good with those cages i'd just keep running them without the stops cause you usualy chuck the stops when you replace your reeds anyway. the only real bitch is that you need to figure out what there off of so you can get parts later on down the road. i'd just make sure your jetting is right because they look like they have bigger openings than stock so they can flow more air...

The cages, and reeds that you took the pics of, with 3 holes in them, are FMF Ram Valves. The Ram Valves are wider than stock, and maybe a little longer. I used to have a set, but I sold them, that's how I know what they are. Someone on here said, that FMF quit making reeds for the Ram Valves, but I don't know, and it would be worth a phone call, to see if FMF still makes them.

I'll second this. Those are the Ram Valves from FMF.
