96_banshee_96
I just installed a crank when putting my cases back together. Its just a stock crank out of a 2000 that I bought from WALLACE84. My question is should the crank spin freely or should it have a some resistance to it. By this I mean when I pull on the rods to rotate it, it seems like it has resistance to it and doesnt spin freely. Is this not right to me something doesnt seem right. The bearings seemed to be ok and there was no play in the rods when the crank was out of the cases.

If the flywheel and PTO gear are on and the PTO is driving the clutch basket, you bet it will have some resistance. The flywheel will feel weird because if the magnetic flux. Hard spots in rotation at 180 degrees from each other. If not, You may have a separating crank and the webs are contacting the cases. Find the cause. It should spin nice a free by itself. Your intuition of it not feeling right are probably on. Go with your instinct. Brandon
IROOST1
Yeah, as long as its fine when the crank was out your fine. I had the same thing happen on the last two motors i built. Once the flywheel and clutch is installed, it seems like its not spinning right. But its fine, just has some tension on it.

If not and you don't already have it all together it would be a wise low cost investment.
96_banshee_96
No I did not have anything else on the crank. Just put the cases together and it would not spin right so I was like WTF something doesnt seem right. I decided to split the cases again to see what the problem was and I found out that one of the tabs on one of the bearings was not inside the groves on the case. I am going to put them back together tomorrow and see if the problem is fixed. No I did not have the crank trued and welded. I dont plan on bumping up the compression on this bike or putting anything else on it except for pipes. I have a 96 with a hotrods trued and welded crank and If I were going to put some mods on one of them it would be the 96 rather than the 87. How much does it usually cost to get it trued and welded though????
