ok fellas,i m looking for out of frame pipes, the problem is i cant make my mind up.i got on 1 hand jhon from sandtoyz trying to sell me a pair of small bore shearers outof frame with the triple crome both on the left side for 500,these pipes are used, and in very good shape, and as some of you know shearers on one side have to be costum made, therefor costing[$$700] a little more than cpis.on the other hand i got lynn from lc performance saying that cpis make more horse power, and thats all lynn runs on his bikes, and i can get a brand new pair of cpis for 550,small bore.what do you guys think?ill be running this on a 421 cub on alky.i want some personal experience.thanks.i know this is been talked about, but i dont remember ever talking about out of frames. :thanks::thanks: :banghead: :shoothead:

Im in the same boat as you. I think I'll be grabbing a pair of CPI BB OOF's though.

Also how does your cub do on Alky. I thinking of switching to alky soon.

alky gave me about 11/2 to 2 bikes, atleast thats what i was beating a friend of mine on a cub on gas,but his like 80 pounds lighter than me,and before we would change wins.ofcourse he is now going to alky as well so we will see.also how much are you paying for the bb?and where are you getting them?

Jon from sandtoz has never steered me wrong. I have shearer pipes on my 421 cub, and I also had cpi`s at one time. I prefer the shearers anyday.

I wanted both out the left, but matt would make anymore out the same side. I would snatch them up if I didnt already get new shearers.

As for the alky, I wouldnt go back, atleast not for draging. Once you get it tuned in, you will agree.

i know jhon know his stuff, its just that lynn ported my motor, and converted my carbs, and his a cpi fanatic, and i trust him as much as i trust jhon, the only thing is i like shearers better than cpis,so r/atvshee i guess we are going to have to settle this the old fashion way.cub against cub baby.if you come down to pismo during the summer let me know and we can hook up.thanks

I know different builders motors favor different pipes. I would run what the builders suggests because that probably what he used to test and tune the motor with. My builder suggested shearer because thats what he used while doing R&D on the dyno. Just my .02

John at Sand Toyz is a stand up guy... I have Shearer inframes on my cub, and love them... i know it's not out of frames, but I'm sure the Shearers hit the same way.

Pismo would be nice, but thats a long drive for me.

But im down for a cub against cub match. Even though im still unsure about switching to alky.

I have ran cpi and now have shear out of frames. CPI's will pull a little harder out of the hole. But there has been alot of dyno's posted showing the curve of both pipes and practically all of them show the shear pipes keeps making power in the top end after cpi's fall off. Both pipes are good pipes and I have seen certain bikes that the cpi's turned better times than the shear. I have a couple of friends that have recently purchased huge motors from K&T and the pipes they send with them are CPI's. If you go with the shear same side and your going to be out in the dunes be prepared for the pipe mounts to break that's a given. And it sucks after you fork out all that money for a nice chrome finish and someone has to go in and weld a plate for a new mount. Their mounts are brased on and they will not hold up to alot of movement. I know from experience. I love my out of frames but my bike is strictly a drag bike on the track. I am one who feels the louder the better. But if you plan on spending the majority of the time in the dunes an inframe pipe will give you alot less headaches. I know a guy who had a 4 mill stock cylinder bike that tried both inframe and out of frame pipes on a 300ft track and there was only a couple hundreths difference in his times. Just my .02

I can tell you there's plenty of people running Shearers out on the ice here....not sure how much colder you have to be than that...LOL.
