420_Big_Bore
Hey guys havent been on here for a while. I just went to the dirt drags yesterday and chucked on my grr dragpipes, and i found they perform less than my pro circuits, eg:I cant take off in 2nd withh the drag pipes but i can with pro's. Know i have recently blown a piston and replaced the old wisecos with pro x racing (bad mistake) they have much smaller windows. Could this be my problem as i know drag pipes need more fuel. Also any other mods i could do to improve the performance with the drag pipes? Ps: Does anybody know if andy has closed down? Cant seem to find his site. 5150banshee
those pistons are junk and i would probably do a re jet cause the drag pipes need alot more fuel
420_Big_Bore
Yeh i realise that now, but i couldnt find any 68mm wiseco's around. Might have to ask round. Well with my pro's and the setup i got, the mechanic told me to run with 330 mains.
lowriderb
what kind of port work do you have? with drag pipes and port work i would think you would be in the 400's.. i saw andy posted a little while ago on planetsand saying no he's not closed that it was a rumor.. i didnt know he had a site though.. 420_Big_Bore
Well i had a stage 2 port job and then i got a 409cc Big Bore Kit. I live in Australia and somebody in Tasmania done the work for me and said to run 330's (with the bigbore kit and pro's). He said he didnt know much about drag pipes so thats why im askin you guys. Im guessing a set of wisecos will make a bg difference as well? Wow 400's, thats a big jump. Yeh he did have a site, grandriverracing.com but i cant find it anymore? alcoholbanshee
First off lets forget the myth drag pipes take lots more fuel!!!!!!!! Two years ago with my GRR 421 cub setup on gas I was running 270 main jets in Mikuni 39.5mm TMX's. This was in 300 ft drags. Also I was using GRR pipes. I ran a 4.002 in 300' with a 20 shot at Little Sandy with this setup. Shee was flyin' Andy's pipes take less fuel than others, much less. Making power is about efficiency not stuffing as much fuel in as you can. AS far as Andy being closed, I believe that is pretty much true. He will only do work for a few of the chosen ones. I can't really speak for Andy, but I think he is just burnt out with this stuff (he has been building motors a looooooooong time).......and now is just the time to move on. lowriderb
the better advice would be to tune in the motor to where the plugs look good and thats what it needs to be.. 330's sound small to me.. every single bike is different, every port job is different, every situation is different.. bench tuning the motor is probably the most wrong way to tune a motor.. on gas make your plugs look like a brown paper bag and you should be fine.. 420_Big_Bore
Yeh 330's were for the setup i had before i got the drag pipes. Ok so if my plugs are black oily / or black dry what would i need to do? I've never heard plugs of being brown?
moneybags
Are you using stock carbs or the 34 mm carbs you have listed in your sig? If you are using the 34 carbs, You are probly useing the wrong jets. I would hope that you are not using stock carbs with that setup. 420_Big_Bore
Nah i am using the 34mm carbs and yes the jetting is definitely too small (for drag pipes), i was just wondering what size i would need to jump up to from 330? And anything else i would need to change?
lowriderb
start with a fresh set of plugs, gap them to about .025's and then to a plug chop.. on gas your plugs should be about like a brown paper bag or chocolate milk..
420_Big_Bore
Ok will do that this week end and let you know. By the way i am using NGK BR8ES plugs, not sure if they are similar to you guys?? Do you run hot or cold plugs?
bigboybanshee
BR8ES plugs are fine. If your plugs are black then you are too rich. Which plug did you have oil on?
420_Big_Bore
the BR8ES had oil on, but i havent done a recent plug chop. What do i need to do if it is oily? and what do i do if its black but dry?

Trust me I have been down this road tons of times.
