Jetting 28mm Keihins on a mostly stock bike

Recommended Posts

Ok, I picked up a set of 28mm Keihins, and I need to jet them for my setup. It's mostly stock, but I heard these carbs will really wake it up. Pretty much my mods are PT Mids, UNI filter in the stock box with lid but no snorkel, Boyesen Reeds, +4 Timing, and that's really it. I'm at basically sea level and my temps are 50-70*. I've messed around with the stock Mikunis a lot, but I don't even know where to start on these guys. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

45-48 pilot with 160 mains jjh needles. That should be a safe place to start.Prolly end up with 150 mains+the 45 pilot.

Cool man, thanks for the info, that's seems to be what I'm hearing around 150-160 mains. One question though, what the heck is a JJH needle? I'm not sure which Keihins they are if the are the PWKs or what, but the stock needles they came with should be fine I would think.

Any other opinions? ANyone runnin' these on a mostly stock bike, I've been getting a lot of different answers. Seems like 150 main, 45 pilot? But I've had people telling me as low as a 130 main. I knew it was gonna be tough to find feedback on these guys.

I've ran 28mm keihn pwk's for several years now & I would agree that you're looking at 150-160 on mains. I run around a 175 but have a mild port & shaved head with trinity stage 4 pipes. As far as the needle is concerned, go with the jjh needle. I had fmf pipes before & was running a N68A needle which worked great with my previous setup however the trinity pipes did not agree with this at all. I've switched over to the jjh needle & all is well again. If your PT mids don't like the jjh needle you might try a different one like the N68A.

The carbs are great, you'll love them.
