shanYE west
I heard from a shop that powdercoating is bad on the nikasil in cubs. So I called a few builders and none of them have heard of this problem. Jeff @ F.A.S.T gave me the number to millenium. I called them and they said that temps over 350 changes the molecular structure of the nikasil and could cause it to bubble. I wish someone would have told me this :: So I figured I'd give you guys a heads up before you powdercoat your cylinders.
dajogejr
Odd... I'd think the combustion chamber gets WAY hotter than 350....in fact, it has to, the EGTs are 3 to 5 times that much..hmmm... Yeah, I'm going to polish my 10 mil cub anywho...

There has to be alot of people powdercoating there cubs.. you think alot of the builders would know about this type of problem if it is that big of a problem. fast500#12
if you temp gets any where close to 350 you got other problems. your EGT is around 1700' at the flanges, who ever told you that is full of shit and or has no clue what they are talking about. shanYE west
thats strange. My cubs are polished and havent had any problems so far. If you polished them then your fine. Its powdercoating them thats supposed to be a problem because of the oven temps. if you temp gets any where close to 350 you got other problems. your EGT is around 1700' at the flanges, who ever told you that is full of shit and or has no clue what they are talking about. Mike at cascade told me of the problem with powdercoating cubs and then I called millenium plating to double check and they basicly said the same thing. I think millenium has plated a few cubs in there day.. they might know a thing or two about nikasil. They told me that if you trust the coater and tell him to set the oven down to 300 you'll be fine. r/atvshee
i was going to say just powdercoat the cubs first then get them plated. But it most likely wouldnt work because they sand blast the cylinders. and it would be too much of a hassle.

Hmmmmm. I'm not familiar with cubs, but it is perfectly fine to powdercoat stockers, and I don't see how the cubs would be any different. As long as the coater is careful, and tapes everythign off they are supposed to, I don't see how it could be a problem. As said above, EGTs are well above 1500*. Like I said, I don't have any experience with cubs though.
