Crazy05
Had a hack port before that only made 55 to 60 to the wheels. Piston let go so I tried another porter. Kevin Herr in Encinitas CA. He gave me a very aggresive dune port. So far I am very pleased. The bike pulls harder and seems to be going much faster at the top of the hill (Olds). Raced a Banshee with nitrous and oofs and got beat. I was winning till he hit the squeeze tho. Raced a 400 cub and won. Raced him again and won. Lined up again and bogged the hole shot. But stayed a couple bikes back all the way up the hill. Didnt gain on him and he didnt walk. To me that means we had the same hp. I have heard a 68 cub is a 392 and is called a 400 when on a stock stroke so that is what I am going to assume it was. I have also heard they make 70 hp out of the box and 80 ported by your average porter. He said it was a stage 4 trininty. I would like to know what those make to give me an idea of what I'm making untill I can afford to get her dynoed. I had a blast with the new motor and everyone that saw it said it hauled the mail for a stock stroke and bore 350. Its bored 2 over but that doesnt count for much. 64.5 or something. Not bad for 1 carb. Cant wait to get another.

dajogejr
Probably a 68mm stock stroke cub (392, I think) And you're not porting 10HP out of it. There are very, and I mean very few people that could port 10HP out of a cub, certainly not your average porter.... Especially not trinity....since cubs are drag ported from the factory, the "Stage" porting from Trinity shouldn't apply. it's either a drag port (just raising the exhaust and massaging the transfers/intakes) or it's cleaned up. A properly setup cub stock stroke, 68mm bore on gas should be every bit of 80 plus HP EASY... Your bike shouldn't beat that bike....period. Either it's not setup properly, he can't ride...or Kevin Herr does an amazing dune port and you're a helluva rider yourself. Crazy...don't take that the wrong way. A win is a win....but, not many people can get the kind of numbers out of an OEM cylinder that you can basically bolt on with a cub. I'm not saying it can't be done...I'm just saying not a whole lot of people can. Your bike probably has low 70s HP...my guess. Add another carb, add a few more HP and some RPMS as well

Yep...exactly Cam. Like I said...Crazy...don't take my post the wrong way, not meant to be a smart ass or sound like a jerk at all. But cleaned up cub cylinders are by far the best bang for the buck you can buy, period. Guys can spend 30 to 60 hours to get those kinda numbers out of OEMs. And I'm sure they're not making minimum wage to do it!!! However, OEM cylinder and stock stroke racers are a large bunch...they love to see how much and how fast they can go out of a set of stockers...there's no doubt about it! rocketboy
in reality I doubt your bike even hits 70 rwhp especially on one carb ,the thing is :setup is more important than hp and rider ability goes along way .also the cubs have poor lowend with some hesatation which in some situations could be a big disadvantage .IMO he (cub rider)must have had a big problem with jetting or something cause they are in another league .
