Stock pistons

Just like the title says, I am kind of wondering how much time I have before a skirt decides to give way. My mods are below. Should I expect them to last a while or not. Stock pistons just worry me when I start adding mods, and I'd like to know if anyone has had any troubles with the stock ones breaking a skirt very often. Thanks for any input

its hard to give you an amount of time... for some they last years and some days...

it is vry ez to say that as you add mods your rolling the dice for sure... if you hav the money id just invest in some new pistons... if you wait until they come apart your going to spend more getting your cylinders fixed.

We have never had any concern of OEM pistons breaking skirts if they ARE in spec. The problem is most people will wait until it is too late for a rebuild. When the piston reaches TDC and BDC, the rod changes loading direction thus causing a rocking motion in the piston. If the tolerance is excessive, it will not really rock, but bang against the sleeve until it breaks. Tight pistons=no worries. If you don't know if your motor is within spec, you better find out. We have run casted pistons with 20psi under boost without piston failures.

Like Brandon and Bansh-eman said, stock piston like is a fairly subjective thing that depends on alot of variables. If the engine is completely stock with regard to the pistons and bore, then a compression test may be a good indicator of the health of your pistons.

What Brandon stated holds true for all types of pistons in almost all engines. The fact that the Banshee engine is almost square can allow you to get away with alot more piston, bore, and ring wear than is possible in many other engines. :geek:

110 is low, adding domes will only make that motor wear faster.

My advice is get a fresh top end....

Or...if the pistons and cylinder are within spec, at least re-ring and hone it.

Should be upwards of 120PSI on a fresh, oem port build/head...at or near sea level.

Yeah, what he said.

Thanks for the replies, just going off the cylinders measurement they were still ok, not to sure on the pistons though, I couldn't get a very accurate reading with the cylinders on it. I looked in the cylinders and they both have the cross hatches in them. The pistons, just looking from the intake and exhaust ports didn't have much wear on them. I know that isn't the way to tell though. Possibly just a little wore rings ya think? I don't really have the time to tear it down right now because I'm building a house and I'm going to LS for Rattlesnake hunt, but I'd like the motor to last atleast that long.
