Removing every other dog ear?

Recommended Posts

I didn't find too much searching on this, but hear that cutting off every other dog ear from the tranny gears makes finding the next gear much easier. If I have my tranny out now, would it be beneficial and worthwhile to have these cut? I am mainly trail riding and occasionally racing, but want to get some suggestions on this and see if its even worth it ??

To make your tranny shift easier mod the shift star to start. Jeff @ FAST has a couple things on there to help your hard shifting.

cutting the dogs off the trans gears is normally done when you are cutting for an override.. to finish the override the drum would need to be cut as well.

the shift star should be your first (also easiest) part to get at for hard shifting..

the next thing you should deffinitly look into is if your shift shaft is still in adjustment.. that could make things difficult too..

get a duneable over ride... you can shift clutchless WOT up and down... but your going to pay a few hunder for sure

I was thinking about that, but I would loose 6th gear which I dont want to do esp for trails. Plus I heard its not as reliable as a stock tranny... I think I will stick to a few other mods for now. (RZ)
