vtecjun
I have searched and done all the research by reading all the pinned articles on jetting and carburation, but I still cant get my banshee to idle. I am totally stumped on what the problem is. Here is the list of my mods: Wiseco Pro Lite Pistons (fresh rebuild by a local shop) Stock Carbs Vito's Needles (3rd slot right now) 25 Pilots 280 Mains Boysen Reeds K&N Filters no Box Boost Bottle Shaved Stock Head (155 Compression as of today on both sides) NGK BR8ES Plugs Using 100 AV Gas with Castor 32:1 I have tried the 27.5 Pilots with the needles on the 4th and 5th spot with no success. I have adjusted the air screws from .5 turn out to 3 turns out with no succes with the current setup 25 pilots and 3rd spot on the needle. Another thing that my carbs have that I dont see in the Yamaha Service Manual are 2 screws that are on the sides that adjust the height of the slides. They are brass and have lock nuts on them. I just backed them all the way out so they arent lifting the slides up at all. I have been working on this problem forever and really need some advice. Thanks in advance. mpbanshee
Make sure your slides in the correct way (cutaway facing air filters). Also, the slides need to be slightly raised in order for the bike to idle. If your slides are the way down, it wont idle.
vtecjun
I am pretty sure they are in the right way. If they werent the bike wouldnt run at all right? I can get it running and ride it but it just wont idle. There is a small gap at the bottom of the slides where I can see in the carbs. I adjusted both to be the same distance up. Matt those are your new idol screws put in when the tors are removed... if they were done correctly screw them in to idol up, but if the place where they were installed wasn't shaved down it's possible the screw won't reach the slides to move them up enough

If I turn those in all the way they move the slide of pretty high. I will try to adjust them up and see what happens. Thanks

I knew that it was going to be something stupid :: :: :: I had the slides facing the wrong way, I never realized that they could swap left to right :shoothead: The funny thing is that they have been like that for a year and a half!!! I have been riding around with absolutely no bottom end response. All my buddies that I ride with told me I was chicken cause I wouldnt do some of the hill climbs at the dunes last year. I kept telling them that the bike had no low end power, no one belived me. As soon as I cracked the throttle I knew...it sounds 500bajillion times better and it idles! Crisp and quick :woot: I can actually get off the bike and do something, come back and its still running!! I have to say thanks to all that helped. Now I can do some full throttle blasts and check the plugs for the topend burn. Maybe some day I will get a hang of this carburation stuff. Matt Is the TORS system removed from your carbs? If it is removed and you go to balance the carbs and all you have is a Clymers manual, this could be a stumbling block. Congratualtions on sorting your slides out.
vtecjun
I am just a beginner at this so I am pretty stoked that I got it figured out. I just ordered PWK 35mm Carbs from Jeff at F.A.S.T last week. I just wanted the satisfaction of figuring out my stock stuff. Cant wait now till that comes in, I also got the carb sync tools as well.

vtecjun
Porting is next. I didn't want to buy carbs that would be too small for the future, so Jeff recommended the 35's so I have some room to grow.
