J-Madd
Any chance in hell I can safely run a mix of race/pump gas? My drum of 108 Klotz gas goes quick with 2 Cubs (I let a buddy ride one). I'm just getting a concensus of opinions. Thanks.
dajogejr
Jmadd...didn't you just have to rebuild one after it locked up (forgot if it was you or not...) With that timing and compression...and the cost of gernading a motor to save a few bucks...I'd say stay with 108. I'm sure you'd be ok with a 50/50 or 25/75 mix. But....is it worth saving a few bucks? Just my opinion. Why don't you go to alky? More power, same price. (Yeah, I know alky is cheaper, but...you burn twice as much and use more premix too....) Leadfoot350
mix it up. I run at sea level 185 comp with =7 timming mixed to get around 104ish. You could probably mix it to get 101ish

Yeah, I locked one up.....ran the right carb out of gas. I'm not a cheapskate, so I'll probably stay with 108. BTW Klotz gas is about 10 bucks a gallon.I've thought about alky; but purging seems like such a hassle. If I get beat on my 421 by a DS650 on nitrous (local rival of sorts), I'll go straight to alcohol. Edited March 22, 2007 by J-Madd
dajogejr
They don't have any gas stations around you that sell race fuel? I only pay 5 bucks a gallon for race fuel around here, 110 octane. Sheesh...in that case, alky would be cheaper... It'll take one healthy DS on spray to beat a good tuned 421 cub.... I'm not saying it can't be done...but, they'll have 3 to 4 times the money into that DS get r done!!
Bansh-eman
10 bucks a gallon?!?! holy balls! 6 bucks a gallon for VP110 here... u need to find somewhere to buy your self a drum of VP
Animalman294
I would stick with the race fuel and not run the chance of tearing up the motor again............ I pay around $5 a gallon here too. If gas prices keep going up the way they are I'm probably going to be paying less for race fuel than I am for cheap ass unleaded.................. :shoothead:
jbooker82
As much racing that happens in Memphis TN there has to be some body in that town that sells race fuel. Heck you could probably just go to a race, get in to the pits, and find some body selling fuel. It is only a 100 mile drive from where you are. Go watch a night of racing, get some race fuel way cheaper than 10 bucks a gallon. That is a win win situation. Klotz makes some great products, but there is no way I would pay 10 bucks a gallon. How much is shipping on a 5 gallon can? I bet it is killer since it is hazmat.
J-Madd
I've only bought 1 drum of Klotz so far. I buy from a Klotz dealer that I know, and he swears that HE pays around $500 or so for 55 gallons (from what I remember), and I think I bought it for about $515 if I remember correctly. It's SUPPOSED to be better gas b/c each drum is analyzed for octane rating and some other bs. I can get turbo blue at a decent price close to here, but I haven't researched its quality. Didn't mean to turn this into fuel comparison thread, but I welcome all opinions. Thanks.
dajogejr
While I'm not a big fan of turbo blue....at 10 bucks a gallon for Klotz, I'd be a true believer in the blue...sheesh.
87sheerips
Yea I like turbo blue, especially the sweet sweet goodness smell. Whats that other shit they sell around us Daj, at the shell stations?? I forget, maybe its torco? both are around 5 a gallon, even at the dunes. dajogejr
Torco and CAM2. I used the stuff at the Amaco by me last year in my cub. Not a single issue...110 octane, 4.99 a gallon.
