I am putting my reed cage back and according to yamaha the bolt for the carb joint is 7.2 ft lbs.

I have prodesign parts. 7 lbs just seems like a whole lotta torq on them.

Any input.

Most time I tighten till tight then a quarter turn more.. But I wanted to go by the book this time.

I have found on clutch bolts, reed bolts, etc. (all those lil 7.2ft lb bolts) that is better to use a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 6" extension and one hand to tighten them. Amost everyone that tries to torque them winds up busting one off. Too much discrepency with the torque wrench, gummed up threads, etc.. Also as Snopczynski said it helps if the threads are clean.
