FireHead
Just say the word and I am in, I ride almost every weekend on both sat and sun only thing that ever stops me is lack of people to ride with. I suppose there could be one more thing that sort of slows me down is that I need to either buy some Cascade silencers or repack my CPI silencers to even be close to the coastal noise regulation limit with my red bike. I have never really recieved a straight answer on what to do for that. Riding the other direction if I see the police doesn't count as answer in my book. Other than that it sounds like I have someone to ride with, so that problem is gone. The licensing will still be a bit annoying, but I know what I need to do to get it sorted out. The OSP officer that does all that stuff (only on Wednesdays) was really nice and after yacking at him for a bit last Wednesday, he gave me his email address, personal cell number, and told me once I get my paperwork together, swing by on a Wednesday without an appointment and he will get me taken care of. Furthermore, he also offered to check anything out I was considering purchasing if I emailed him the info. It seems like that this whole deal was alot of work, but I will have made a really good contact in the process, so it winds up being worth my time spent on this deal.
vtecjun
My wife and I and a bunch of friends are going to Sand Lake next weekend. If you are interested in going let me know. It is pretty close to Portland for you. We have a spot reserved at Sand Beach camp grounds.
Jhughes7
Yeh I dont know what you can about the noise, But on weekends besides memorial day the 4th of july and labor day, There is hardly ever a dune cop out there.

I am also assuming that I can go get an Oregon ORV tag with my California registration.

bbluebanshee
Welcome to Oregon Firehead!! I live here in Coos Bay/North Bend. Anytime you make it around, dont hesitate to shoot me a pm. As far as the noise restrictions that have not yet gotten answered for you... The only time I have gotten checked was when I asked to be checked. Since I asked, and was not riding at the time(sitting in a parking lot waiting for a friend) they would not give me a ticket. I rang out at 106 db  There are people that i know that have gotten checked and gotten tickets, but they are few and far between. I have heard the worst place is Florence. I have never worried too much about the sound regs, but if I see the forest service or police...I head the other direction. I am sure I will get nailed one of these days, but hopefully not. Now for dunes stickers and the such... You will need a dunes sticker and a flag for your truck as well as your bike. Then to park your truck in a staging area or on the sand(I think) You will need a northwest forest pass 30 bones for one year, or 5 bones every time you go out. I hope some of this info helps. And good luck!!

And good luck!! Where do you get the Northwest forest pass from? I already knew that I needed the ORV Permit thing for my truck, but I had forgotten about the flag for my truck. Thanks for reminding me. I don't remember a whole lot from the last time I was at any of the coastal dunes in Oregon and it seems to have changed a bit. The forest pass deal is new to me. For the sound stuff, I am figuring that I probably need to atleast repack my silencers or replace them with a set of the Cascade CSFX silencers. The only reason I hesitate to get the Cascade units is that they are expensive and I am not sure how they will look on my bike. :geek:
bbluebanshee
The northwest forest pass can be gotten at the forest info booths(for lack of knowing wtf it is really called) I know there is one as you get into reedsport..i will give a call to see if i can find a local one for you. As far as riding for me...at least for the next couple of months both bikes are down. girlfriends and mine are both getting re powdercoated and chromed. So they are both in frame state as of this point. Hope to have them both back together by july. I have been trying to trade my truck for a wheeler, but no bites yet. I think my other bke is probably on the one year plan for completion and that just leaves me with my Harley, which doesn't do well in sand.

Joe's). I would be nervous about going to a place called Nature of the Northwest when it is located by Lloyd Center. There are alot of hippies down in that area, especially by a nature store. One of them might quit hugging a tree and try to hug me or soething........................
crazybluerider
Between the tree huggers and the PETA people downtown portland can get downright dangerous sometimes. If you are talking about the tabs for your bike, Action motorsports in gresham has them. Thats just a quick trip out marine drive from north portland.
