FredMW
Are you trying to move close to work or out of town? The area where your new job is at is Swan Island which is a Commercial/Industrial area The residential area just east is old and run down. You are just west of the I-5 corridor , 1/2 hr south will get you in subburbs. 15 min North puts you in Vancouver Wa. 30 min East puts you in the Gresham area. If you go West 15 min you are in the Beaverton Area. All the outliying Subburbs are fairly close in if toy don't want to live right in town. DMV is a breeze and cheap I think car and pickup tags are like $40 every 2 years. I live SE of Portland , work construction , my average commute to any where in Portland or Salem is about an hour. I am trying to move clase to work and I am having shitty luck trying to find a place that is less than 15 miles from work. If I had to drive from the Gresham area, on I84 for a commute, how long do you figure that would take? Does Oregon do any emissions testing? Yes Oregon has emmission testing. We don't have Caliafornia traffic so 15 miles is nothing. If you were on I-84 in Gresham you would be looking at a 15 min commute, add traffic 20-25 max. I think it's been a couple years since I had to have it checked. After I cut down my list of places to live to around four places, would you mind checking them out on a map to make sure I am not moving into a bad neighborhood or setting myself up for an epic commute? The cost of the DMV stuff is no big deal. I just don't want to wait in a line at the DMV or atleast wait in the shortest line possible. If you have any reccomendations for such things around the Portland area, please let me know. From what I have seen there are alot more strip clubs in Portland than are just on the one street that you are talking about. I heard they were working on some legislation to control that a bit awhile back though. :ermm:
FireHead
Just PM me the addresses and I'll check them out for you Thanks for the help so far Fred. I sent you another PM. For all the rest of you, here is a list of places that I am looking at renting. If anyone has any opinion about the area they are in or the place itself, let me know. I am trying to stay away from areas that have strip clubs, hooker, meth houses (or trailers), or people that are going have an overwhelming problem with my Harley or Banshee being started up everyonce in awhile. http://www.forrent.com/search/detail.asp?site=1006922 http://www.forrent.com/search/detail.asp?site=1007133 http://www.forrent.com/search/detail.asp?site=1007052 http://www.forrent.com/search/detail.asp?site=1006733 http://www.forrent.com/search/detail.asp?site=1006663 http://www.bethanyvillage.com/index.cfm?fu...&pageID=137 http://www.rent.com/rentals/oregon/portlan...dover/482391/2/
Jhughes7
Usually The rule I follow for dmv's is, Be there 20 minutes they open and sit at the door till they unlock it, Then your first in line! And as far as portland goes, Dont goto MLK after dark. (Unless you wanna score some drugs and a hooker)

(Unless you wanna score some drugs and a hooker) Does the DMV only let you take car of one item at a time (license, registration, etc.) like California or can you do everything at once? Is licensing a separate office from title and registration like in WA? Speaking of the bad areas of Portland, does anyone know anything about concealed weapons permits (CWP) or concealed pistol licenses (CPL) (I'm not sure what term they use in OR) in Oregon? My CPL from Washington is still valid, I never bothered getting one in CA, and I am not sure how Oregon does that sort of thing or if they do that sort of thing.
