STUMPED!

Hey everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend of riding!

Well, I have issues.

The Good.

Starts 1-2 time

idles perfect in neutral

has okay power, Like a stock would

The Bad

sat for about a year and a half before I bought it. Cleaned carbs, took them apart and cleaned, cleaned, and then cleaned again.

I have a ct 370 longrod kit with pwk28's and the power band is very odd. I can stay moving and it will pull the bike with some fairly okay power but you can tell its kind of boggy. But then if you just give a tap on the clutch..

ITs like freaking nitrous, it winds up and moves like a built motor should. But then I let off the throttle and then throttle up again and it still moves well but not pulling up the rpms untill I pull the clutch in again and then it flys!

This is at every speed and every gear.

I hope everyone reading can understand my explanation of what is going on. And any help is always appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you checked the compression? When was the clutch changed last?

Have not check the compression and according to the guy that I bought it from before I replaced everything except the motor said that the motor had about 3yrs and a total of maybe 5 trips to glamis on it. So the clutch would have been done then I would assume. CT racing built the whole motor for him.

I check the arrows on the case side of the clutch and they line up. To me it almost seems like the clutch is dragging. I am NOT over rev while I am going. So the clutch is not slipping it just doesnt wind up rpm wise untill I pull the clutch in again.

But in Neutral with the clutch pulled in I can put into gear and no jumping, So I figured the clutch was adjusted right.

Okay just went out and double checked everything again. except compression, have no way to do today.

But,

Did the nickle trik to adjust out the play of the clutch cable at perch to have the proper amount of play.

Check my oil(yamalube) that I just changed again and correct amount on the dip.

arrows at case side line up

checked plugs for any diff discoloration for either side and they both look normal.

pulled fuel line from both carbs to make sure fuel is free flowing and they are.

checked carb equalization tube and its on.

did the carbcleaner test for leaks and no issues.

again, I feel no slippage when in gear. Can drop it from neutral and it will not jump. It just wont wind up with throttle. I can pull the clutch just a bit and man that this revs and I can let go and HANG ON! But then let off the throttle and have to start all over again.

I am not a novice rider, this is not my first banshee. I for the life of me just can not come up with any ideas on what the heck is the issue.

Man. This is a strange one. So the bike was running ok but all of a sudden it started running like this? I know you said it sat up for a while.

All wheel bearing ok? Does it roll freely?

You said you werent sure of the clutches condition right? Maybe check that.

And this happens even in 1st?

Sounds like something is binding and/or causing drag. The hard hit of "clutching" it over comes what ever it is. What is it is the question.

All wheel bearings are new and have no bind to them. The chain is adj properly, The breaks have fresh fluid and do not drag.

It rolls just the same as our other banshee when being pushed around.

I mean you just have to barley touch the clutch and BAM! The banshee lights up like a rocket.

I just dont freaking know?

It sounds like it doesnt want to come up on the pipe? Or its just sluggish? And it does it even in first? Sorry if Im being redundant. Its done this since you got it or it just started? This is very important.

Just seems sluggish a WOT then pull the clutch just a touch and I mean just 2 finger pull and BAM! It comes right up and zooooooooom! Its like it needed a second of no load on the clutch to build rpms.

I just got this shee about 3 months ago and spent that time replacing everything except the motor (carbs ect...) and so once got it done, fired it up. Had issues with the rpms not coming down once let off the throttle.

That turned out to be mis routed throttle cable.

This is one of those problems that you would have to ride it to see.

Thanks for trying to help me out! If your ever in Vegas let me know!

Yeah thats exactly what I was thinking. With no load it can rev and the hard hit overcomes what ever the hell it is holding it back. Im gonna think on this one. lol!

Can my clutch have drag on something internal that when I pull it in and it comes up that it powers past what ever might be hanging?

I am going to drain my oil again and maybe try another brand other then yamalube.

Yes it could. Thats the point I was making earlier. I would definitely take the clutch cover off and check everything out. I mean heck it couldnt hurt. Do you have a Haynes or Clymer manual for it.

NO manual for it. Had one but my dog decided she wanted it more then me. Then we sold my last banshee and I just never replaced it.

shouldnt be that hard.

No its very simple. Its just you can get torque specs out of the book. Good luck with it. Let us know what you find.

Could be something as simple as a jetting change.

I would say that it is a jetting issue. Probably rich in the pilot circuit to midrange.

Main Jet size?

Needle clip postion?

What Needle?

Pilot Jet size?

Turns out on Air Screw?

What elevation are you at?

The bike was set up to run at glamis. I am in Las Vegas

I will pull the carb apart today and then get the rest of the answers.

I just assumed that becuase it was built for so cal and that person lived in so cal that it would be jetted fine for Vegas??
