hi everyone! its nice to join your forum!

im making a thread about a major problem my friend ran into. he has a 97 banshee and i have a dirt bike.

while we were coming home from the store we saw these punks messin around with our bikes. actualy, his more than mine i think. we didnt catch them either as they ran away.

it seem they dumped sand or something in his clutch, like in through the dipstick opening. we seen some scattered around the ground, so we assume there is some in the bike as well. now we didnt start it, but we're wondering how we should procede?? what if sand gets in the tranny etc. ?? is that a major problem or can it be flushed out? we are not 100% sure its sand yet, but we'll find out asap

any help would be kindly appreciated!!

what could be the worst kind of liquid or whatever, that could really harm the bike through the oil dipstick? wondering that as well

thanks!!

So did they dump sand or or some type of liquid in the bike? If sand got into the tranny thats not good. All that sand in going to do is grind the gears and wear them down. If I were you I would flush it. How did you not catch those fuckers I would of chased them untill I at least caught one of them and gave him a good ass beating so he could go back and tell his friends that he got fucked up for doing something stupid.

i would drain oil , take off clutch cover , pull clutch out and try to flush the best you can , if it was my bike i would split the cases and clean all the sand out .

then i would find the kids that did it and burn their house down with their whole family inside !

thx for the tips!

now is sand the WORST possible thing they could have put in there?? i cant imagine anything worse than sand. but will some weird liquds harm insides as well??

i hope we dont get surprised when taking off the clutch cover

...And piss on the ashes.

If they only put it in the oil fill hole it shouldnt have got into the tranny. So long as you havent ridden it since. Not sure that I would drain it through the drain hole either. That has potential for pulling the oil/sand into the tranny and out the drain hole. I would take the clutch cover off and let it drain out that way.

you nailed it!.... if they put sand in he dip stick... im assuming you didnt rideit back you pushed it?

as long as you didnt start it up and run it pull the clutch cover off and let the fluid dump out that way.... craining through the plug is going to pull anything into the cases... onc you dump it out you will see if it was sand or not...

if it was you should be good to just flush the clutch cover out. as long as you didnt run it and give it a chance to get into the case...

how would these guys come up with a "weird liquid" if they were just hangin' around. was there any evidence of a liquid around the bike or some type of spillage? it's pretty obvious that if you look down the dip stick hole and see sand that it would have to be cleaned out. why are you asking which liquid would do the most damage??? . if there was any contamination in there at all including a "strange liquid", i'd take the clutch cover off and completely clean every component.if there is sand in it i'd also check the transmision out. sorry, but these questions are just a little strange.very "interesting" story  if i found anyone f**king with my bike i'd beat them to death with their own shoes! i'd be interested to know how far you chased these arseholes.

well, what i meant was, not strange liquids, just what kind of liquid would do damage if poured down there?? my friend is paranoid right about now and is praying there is no liquids in the gas either or in the crankcase.

there is sand for sure, but not sure about any liquids

we did try and chase em down, but they were on bicycles and we were walking plus they got a head start when they seen us coming. however, we have a good idea who it was and the neighbors are helping too

There is no question I would check it out but honestly, if they dumped sand in the fill hole and put the stick back on, there would be sand on the stick, threads, and all that. If you clean it all off BEFORE cracking open the stick, and find that a stick check reveals no sand, I would drain the oil to be safe and run it in a strainer to verify and kinda inspect the oil for crap. The absolute worse thing for an engine is glass bead but sand ain't far from it. I doubt there are any "strange liquids" that would kill a motor faster than sand.

Also, if these are younger punk kids, you can bet this is there local hang out as they may not have any wheels so I would roll the area around that time of day for a week or so until you found them. They will show up, and I would use my smarter side and would lock them down, call the pigs, make a report, and make mommy and daddy buy you a new engine.

I had a similar incident with some teens knocking my son down. You bet I caught them in 3 seconds (ran college track), and when one said "you can't touch me", he got my knee in his throat. That was a "protective" beating but if you jack those kids up over it, you may get some time for it. Not worth it IMO. New engine sounds better.

The only liquid I can think of that would be worse than sand would be some kind of acid. Seriously doubt they had any hydorchoric acid on had so sand would be the best guess. As the other guys said you should know right away when you take off the clutch cover. I can't believe that they would take the time to screw the dipstick back in all nice and pretty if you caught them in the middle of it. Gas tank is a definate check as well. If there is sand splitting the cases would be the only way IMO you could be for sure that no damage happens. But if it was my bike and I found just a little sand behind the clutch cover and it looked like none made it through the holes into the trans I would probably clean it all out.. Then buy some cheap 10/30 oil (the big jugs) and rig up a way to pump it into the trans via the oil drain plug and let it run out the clutch to trans holes until I was satisfied that there was no sand left. The key here is back flushing it from the trans out.

  • 1 year later...

I can't believe they dumped sand in your motor. If someone did that in my redneck town they would get shot. Sorry for your luck man just clean her out maybe pull the clutch and while its out might aswell replace it right?
