hey hows it going, i have a 1994 banshee, and a problem i cant figure out. when i fire up the bike its real boggy and has no power, the right side exaust smokes real bad and pretty much stays cold compared to the other exaust pipe. the other side runs perfect. i just got done putting on a new cdi box and a voltage regulator with no change. also its only does it when your in 1st to 3rd gears, when u put it into 4th gear (about half throttle and above) the bike runs perfect with lots of pwoer and speed. also when the bike is cold it fires up with one kick but after it gets hot it will not start at all, u have to wait like 20 before it goes, i had it going tonight and when i put my hand behind that pipe my hand got coated in a black greasy residue, so i dont know if its fire or fuel, id appreatite any help thanks.

Thanks for joining the HQ but to answer your question you could try to sycrinze your carbs and you might have to clean the carbs because the float maybe sticking causing the cylinder to be running to rich causing it to throw fuel out of the exhaust!!!!

if it has a bad crank seal it could be sucking tranny fluid into the right cylinder. are you losing tranny fluid? or if you have a float that's sticking open it would be flooding that side and when you get into 4th it could be using enough gas to keep the level down. easy cold start and a hard hot start is a symptom of a rich pilot jet.

it is the thumb throttle side. how can i check the crank seal, also i cleand the carbs out a few months ago and it seems to be all right but i,ll check them agian.

When you say cleaned the carbs, how far did you go? If you do not visually inspect the jet passages and completely break them down, you are wasting your time. Sounds like either carb balance, Your idle jet is clogged on the RH side, or your choke crossover hose is not on. Do me this one- Fire the bike and apply a little choke and see if that side tries to lite up. This will be a sign of a lack of fuel and proceed with the carb cleaning and tuning.

K, I did not catch the smokey part. Sounds more like a crank seal. Pull the RH pipe and if it is very oily and smells like burnt motor oil, learn about crank seals but don;t be surprised if the case haves are leaking.

I would start with cleaning your carbs first to see if that helps and also check carb sink. I agree with the fact that you will smoke more out of the right cylinder if the crank seal is leaking but I'm surpised that it would cause that much run abilty problem. The nut on the right side of my crank was striped out which allowed oil into the cylinder but it still ran great just smoked on the right cylinder.

the right side is firing, because the exaust gets some warm after about 5 minuts of driving it, also i dont see any oil leaking anywhere at all and it dosen't seem to be using the tranny fluid. is that the only way of checking if its a bad seal, buy driving the bike to see if the oil goes down? or is there another way. thanks, forgot to mention that the cross over tube is on.

When mine was leaking trans fluid it was not a fast leak it took time to show on the dipstick The fastest way is two pressure check your lower end is probably by blocking off your exhaust and intake and rig up a way to add air pressure and gauge to make sure it holds pressure for a little while there is a post on here where you are shown step by step how to do it
