FireHead Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 We started assembly on my bros bike and I will say that the fastnerguy bolt kit is great. It is much better quality then the alloyboltz kit. What makes the fastener guy kit better than the Alloybolts kit? Have you used both kits before? I am not trying to be a smart ass. I would actually like to know how current kits from each of those two vendors compare. Quote
theshee Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 Yes ive used both kits before. My bike was assembled with alloybolts. The alloybolts kit would strip very easily, the bolts would just stretch and then would strip before getting to the right toruqe. The Fastnerguy bolts dont do that. They seem like they are made of better material. I will use fastnerguy kits on my next build. Quote

theshee Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 You will like them. Just get some assembly lube and it will work great. Quote
dajogejr Posted March 29, 2007 Report Posted March 29, 2007 I got my chassis done up with 'em so far, love 'em. Unfortuneately, they don't carry a stainless upper Jarm bolt though...so, I'm farming that one out. I've got some zinc coated bolts for now, until I have more time to find some stainless uppers. My boy said ARP makes 'em, just gotta get around to measuring them!! Quote

My boy said ARP makes 'em, just gotta get around to measuring them!! You shouldn't have trouble finding the upper arm bolts for a j-arm bike. I don't even think you need to go to a specialty fastener company. You can probably find them from an industrial supply house like www.mscindustrial.com . If you have your heart set on getting the fastners from AARP, send me the dimensions for what you need once you get them measured. Via my company, I have spent well over six figures with them so far this year. Based on that, they ask me if I need any sample fastners pretty much every time I talk to them. I have never needed anything from them for my self and I would be more than happy to see if I can get them to send me a few of what you need. The only thing is, none of their fastners come polished and you may even struggle to find that particular fastener in stainless steel from them. Let me know if you're interested. Quote

We've got several fasterner places within a few miles. I know I can probably find a place to order them online...but, to me, for something like this, it's easier to walk in and say here...gimme two of these... I'll get 'em measured up soon as I can...and send them to ya. I don't mind in the least paying for stuff...I just like paying for stuff that is right!!! Quote

You probably don't need anything special to figure out what size and thread the bolts are. A pair of calipers should be sufficient. Metric fasterns are real easy to mork with in that the number after the M is major diamter of the thread and the number after the x is the pitch which can be found by counting the number of threads on the fastner in the required units. You are gnerally going to only have one or two common choices for thread pitch within a given diameter. This link should help a bit. http://mdmetric.com/tech/tic1e.htm#measproc Quote
FireHead Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Here's a cool site for metric Ti bolts... http://www.racebolts.com/ That looks like a good source for Ti fastners. I would be really careful about where you use the bolts that you get from that place as they do not seem to be graded, nor do the list the material specification (there are several different types of Ti used for fasteners). Maybe the website just doesn't show any of that information, but in my experience with exotic fasteners (especially fasteners sold as aluxury item to the general public for lack of a better way of putting it) if the grade and material spec. of the Ti fastener is not listed and the fastener is priced reasonably, the fastener probably is an Southeast Asian import that probably should not be trusted in any critical application. Quote
FireHead Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Alright, I am actually going to order a bolt kit today (not just talk about it). Who should I buy it from, Alloyboltz or FastenerGuy? Quote

FireHead Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 I just bought a Fastener guy kit. I'll post up what I think of it when I get it and start using it. :geek: Quote
