What you read/heard is what i have witnessed . Let me know which one you want and i can send them out with your cylinders. I prefer the Pro Design in my own bikes. FireHead
I have always either made my own or used the Pro Design parts. What is the issue with the Mod Quad impellers? Do they have burrs or some other type of manufacturing left-overs on them? :geek:
FASTOYS
Yes they come with sharp edges that can cut the seal and we also had one that went bad (grooved where seal rides). Dont know if it was a wierd seal or a defective shaft with softer than normal metal..!? NEVER had a Pro Design give out and have used dozens. Dont know if it was a wierd seal or a defective shaft with softer than normal metal..!? NEVER had a Pro Design give out and have used dozens. From what I have seen, Mod Quad's machine shop isn't the best suited to make Banshee impellers. They are kind of a unique part that requires a failry expensive CNC lathe with live tooling or a relatively complex fixture in a CNC mill. While none of that is an excuse for making a substandard product, it may be an explanation. With regard to the seal wearing a groove in the impeller, I would bet it was the material the impeller was made of or a shaft tolerance issue, as opposed to the seal being bad. Seals can be bad right out of the box as they are a really high production item, but usually when they are defective in the manner you propose, they burn them self out very quickly and that is very evident by looking at it. A worn in groove from the seal is most commonly a material problem assuming the impeller is within spec. An incorrect material surface hardness or incorrect alloying of the material is a problem that occurrs alot syraight from the metal vendor. It seemslike it's something that is simple and stupid to have as a problem, but it happens to me all the time. I have had to send back or recycle whole truck loads of material because the batch coupon for the material didn't pass our inspection. Washburn
Ive never heard of this but I am very glad I read this. I am going to do alot of research and get a Pro Design Impeller and compare them with My Mechanic and do some simulation tests. If I find out they are not up to par I will get more Pro Design Impellers. I need more acurate information to be sure. ModQuad makes Excalant Products and so does Pro Design. Im going to get a Bunch of the ModQuad Engraved designed Anodized Gas Caps. I think they are super Nice. Heads up

I hadn't heard anything remotely bad about any thing they made before this. Plus, all of their stuff is made in America (Oregon specifically).
csrmel
im using a modquad impeller. the only thing i dont like about impellers (any brand) is how they dont fit so well into the bearing. i can spin my impeller by hand and the bearing wont turn. the impeller spins inside the inner bearing race. ive heard this is normal, but if it was truely normal why is there even a bearing there in the first place if it doesnt move. None of the Pro Design units I had ever did that. Are you sure that you didn't get an out of tolerance bearing?

ban-shred
Yeah but those impeller...are they really better for cooling or just more resistant than the cheap stock plastic unit?
FireHead
Yeah but those impeller...are they really better for cooling or just more resistant than the cheap stock plastic unit? The the billet impellers certainly will be more reliable than a stock, plastic impeller. As for increasing the cooling system's ability to cool, I would say that they certainly do a more efficienct job of pump coolant, but as for putting a number down to say how much cooling has improved, I cannot do that at this time. jeepman380
I have a mod quad impeller in my shee and i've replaced 2 seals already and i've sanded it down a bit to take any sharp edges off and it still messes up the seal. I'm would go with the pro-design one for sure.
