me vs yfz450

So I get the shee jetted pretty spot on today, break it in, retighten everything and go by a field where everyone usually rides. There are about 15 people there, I pull out the banshee.. everyone kind of crowds around to check it out. So I rip across this field a few times, keep in mind I have sand skate II's on. The snow around here has melted the past week, and we got some rain.. all morning in my yard I'm pulling 3rd gear power wheelies and getting great traction. The ground is kind of soggy and soft. The field is mowed & grassy, very short grass. So I ask a kid on a piped yfz450 to line up with me and we drag the first time we're dead even, second time he jumps off the line and I catch up to him for another dead even finish. To me thats considered a loss considering my mods. The kids watching told me my paddles were just breaking loose and not catching traction, I was also taking off in 1st vs him in 2nd. But he got traction with some holeshots. I was wondering what I could do to improve traction.. besides race in sand. Do marvin shaws make a huge difference? I'm considering my options here to make sure this wont happen again.

I was spanking yfz450's left and right the weekend before last on my trail ported banshee w/ paul turner pipes, and I weigh 150 lbs more than the other riders....you should have handed his ass to him from third gear on....they didn't stand a chance in hell against my drag ported cylinders

Definitely get some better tires, might want to check into the kenda gnarly and cut every other row like locogato does.

01 Shee - Mods - K&N Pods, 35mm PWKs, Boss Intakes, VForce 3's with Cascade stuffer, drag ported, milled head (.020), shearer inframes, +4 WWW Swinger, 14F/39R sprockets.

if your taking off in first you need to gear that bitch way up

i used to run 15-41 starting in sec

ifyou got good power, and some like prowedges, and better gearing it wouldnt be a contest.

What gearing do you have? Most Banshees I have been on even with tall gearing can easily launch in second. That can get you in front of him a bit on the holeshot if you can pull 2nd gear. Wether or not the paddles are hooking up on the grass is only going to be a call you can make. If they are spinning excessively more than the other guys dirt tires, then you need to run dirt tires. If they are digging in and ripping the crap out of the grass you may be better off with the paddles. Also what year was this yfz? He could have done ths stock cam mod if it was an early one, that would give it considerably more mid range power on his bike, but generally still be considered stock with a pipe.

We also have to start getting used to the fact that the new 4-chokes are fast. But not fast enough lol But definately change those tires to some kenda knarlys

Thank you...

I got into it with some guys (the site admin no doubt) on e2s telling them with equal or similar weight and skill riders, a new 450 piped with air filter will beat a piped and air filter banshee in a drag race. Maybe not on top....top end, but other than that...yes.

Those dipshits were so insistent that oh, no....450s are a joke, a piped banshee will be a piped 450 all day long, we've done it all day long...etc....blah blah blah.

Yeah, right....

Of course, that whole post got deleted after it got heated up a bit....go figure.

Yeah, I ran paddles because thats what came on the rims I bought. Like I said I'm getting his stock yfz tires from him and we're going to run again. I'll launch in 2nd this time because first wont hook. I'll keep it updated ';'!

Paddles in grass? Why not try your front smoothies on the rear! Or some drag slicks in the sand?

Come on man.

This is a no brainer. Start in 2nd as well.
