Banshee project started finally!

So I got my shee project up and going after more than a year of frustration. It starts second kick. I have mods below:

I'm at 500ft elevation, I had

the head shaved .020" I haven't checked compression yet.

drag ported stock cyl

66mm bore

vforce3's

shearers

B8ES plugs

Also running 99oct, 32:1 with yamalube 2R

35mm pwk carbs and K&N pods on it.

Jetting forum guys told me 155 main 48 pilot. Local shop had a 50 and a 42 pilot (I got the 155 main also). Got home jetted it, first was 155 w/ 50 pilot wouldn't get into the power band sounded boggy and out of tune. changed the needle to second clip down instead of fourth, and put in the 42 pilot. Sounded a little more responsive but still didn't get into the power band and nowhere close to where it should be. I went back to the shop and we looked up what needles he ordered me, instead of the CEL needles, he got me the JJH needles which are almost the richest needles you can buy. Does this sound like the problem? Any input is appreciated.

Also, don't have pipe clamps on.. heard this can cause some jetting issues?

I'm wondering if the 35 is too much carb for this setup?

i would say the 35s are a little large for that setup i would drop back to a 30mm i have the oko 28s bored to 30 and they work really well on my ported 409 setup , and i am running 34pjs on my 421 cub thats drag ported

Im sorry but .020 off a stock head is NOT gonna get the job done on a set of "drag ported " cylinders. Those 35s are NOT too big for "drag ported" cylinders. And your prolly gonna have to change the needle to like a cel . Maybe you should ask who ported your bike for jetting recommendations as im sure if they are a reputable builder they will have some insight for your jetting !

What's a Pipe Clamp on??? I missed that one.

35 to 39's are usually what a true drag ported cylinder run good on. I agree....when you drag port the cylinder, you really need a bit more compression to get it to run right.

That being said....48 to 50 pilot should be ballpark, changing the pilot won't cure your boggy response after 1/8 throttle.

Keep in mind, if it's truly a drag port, you're not going to have any bottom, hardly any mid...then it's gonna come on like a lightswitch at probably 7K rpm till 10 or 10.5K RPM.

Drag porting has no bottom and hardly any middle.

And you really need to check compression....you're probably in the 150 range with .020...and you want to be in the 175 to 190 range with drag porting.

Thanks for the help. I ordered CEL needles today. Here are a few pictures of the port job, I bought these used and they're nothing real special so I don't think jetting then would be too bad. I'm going to order a cool/noss head over the weekend with some 19cc domes and get the compression where it needs to be. I appreciate the feedback. - JD

Amazing accurate discription. I'm going to try to fatten up the pilot + raise the needle to try-n smooth out the power a tad bit. the powerband hits waaaaay too hard, traction isn't even possible.
