where to start

I have a 2003 with toomey t5's and their airfilter that comes with the kit. Otherwise it is completely stock. Anyone got some suggestions for where to start with mods? Bigger carbs, porting, head, reed valves, etc.? I don't have a clue where I should start, and im looking mainly for bolt-ons right now just to make a little more power.

I'd recommend v force 3 reeds. My shee came with them so i cant comment on the affects on a banshee. However, i put them on my dirtbike after i got it. There was a very big difference in power and smoothness of the throttle/power delivery. There was a bit more low end as well.

Start with a cool head,V-3's and some 28 mm carbs. You'll feel the differance.

I would say porting but you mentioned bolt ons for now.

Compression either with a coolhead and lower cc domes, or milling your stock head (much cheaper)

Advance your timing with a ricky stator $35 plate

VForce 3 reeds

K&N Pod filters, unless you ride in the wet muddy environment

Shitcan the stock sparkplug boots on the coil and put some aftermarket NGK's on (won't give you any HP, but will reduce headaches later)

Make sure you jet your bike correctly. Pilot, needle, and main jet

You could also have your stock carbs bored to 27.5mm for about $50-75

Once you've done all of that and realize how much more power you have, you will inevitably want more. At that point, come back and we'll give you some more advice

Porting, Reeds, Noss Machine Head, Ricky stator timing advance.

Get the carbs later. That way you know what size to get baised on your riding type and porting style.

When you do get carbs I would go with keihin PWK 33mm Carbs at the smallest. That is if you get a good port job other wise I would just stick to stock carbs. That is also what jeff at fast recomended to me. He said he wouldnt really waist time with 28's unless your going to just have pipes with no porting.

Some times porting affects the compression.

I would do the port job before you get a noss head. That way you can break it in and do a compression check to get a base line. Then you can get a better estimate of what your compression is going to be with a given dome size. You would be able to get closer to the limit of, pump fuel if you wanted to run only premium pump fuel. Swaping a head out later on isnt that big of a deal.

i dont know what this shit is.. but a good biulder when he ports your motor will be able to tell you what domes you need.. depending on if you wanna run race gas or pump gas.. if he dont get a diff biulder.. as for bolt on mods i would get a timing plate, lightend flywheel, and a noss head... then when you need more and decide on porting which is were you will get the most gains but still need the above.. then you can change domes and get diff carbs..

Sweet thanks for the info. I think right now I might get some reeds and a noss head......but if this cold weather shit keeps up I might get the itch to tear off the cylinders and get them ported. We'll have to see. Is there an easy way to get rid of the tors (thats the stupid ass bulky carb cap shit right?) without buying the kit but being able to get rid of those damn caps? Or should I just get the kit w/ idle screw and do it that way? I want to get rid of the stupid caps I can't even stand looking at them.

Just watch the For Sale section. There are TORS removed carbs on there cheaper than you can buy the kit yourself.

If you do end up pulling your cylinders and getting them ported, may as well pull your crank and send it in for a true/weld, and a TZ bearing on the clutch side.

Good luck, man.

Brad, you forgot to mention stickers and a boost bottle.

Damn.....I just tore off all of my high-perfomance flame stickers :banghead: It's OK though, I still have the seat cover with the sweet flames on it!

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely watch the for sale section for some carbs odaen.

Hey man!

I am going to be out at my ranch this tuesday or wednesday! If you want to meet up with me and go for a ride we could hang out at my ranch and talk about all your mod options and which ones will show you the gains in the dept you are looking for.

Let me know! I will probably be up there Tuesday. PM me your phone number and I will give you a call when I come through laramie. I will have my blue/green banshee with me, you can take it for a spin and get all addicted to wanting to put mods on your bike.
