how do the good old turf tamers still wiegh up against all the new dirt tyres? do use still rate them

Wow, I havent had turf tamers in a long time. The last set I had was on my Warrior, and I had them until I wore them out, then I bought Razrs. The Razrs worked way way better for trails. The problem with the turf tamers was that the lugs were so close together and there were soo many of them that they tires never got any "bite". They were very easy to spin, even on a Warrior. They might still have a use, but for trails, I think there are by far better tires, Holeshots, Knarlys, Rarzs, to name a few.

Well, if you cut the turf tamers correctly so you can get some bite out of them, all I hear is great things about them-still.

They are garbage unless you cut them, like Lifted already said. They just float on the dirt and spin. Id say look for pictures of how people cut them

Yeah, I guess that's true, when I buy stuff I never want to have to rig or modify it to work the way it should, for a few bucks more you can get some Razrs or holeshots, or even better, Kenda Knarlys are the same price, some people actually like the Knarlys better then Razrs or holeshots. I would just go that route instead of buying Tamers and cutting them.

TRUE That, I stay away from that shit too, I mean whats the point. Spend the extra 5 or whatever on some knarlys or if u can spend more, go with some razrs or whatever. No sense in cutting perfectly new tires, even if the benefit is good there is a tire out there that will not have to be modifed to suit your needs..

Ahhh, sooo nostalgic though, I remember when Turf Tamers were the only sport ATV tires you could get that didn't look like ballons. I have been tempted to put some tamers on my shee just too feel a bit younger. :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: I'll stop with my war stories now.

How do you like those 28 Keihens by the way? Are you running stock porting or do you have porting? I've been wanting to pick up a set for my mostly stock shee, but I wasn't sure. Nice bike by the way, that thing looks more like an 07 then an 87.

Thanks for the comments bud  , I love the 28mm Keihins, I have an aggresive dune port, with 20cc domes (mods in sig). Id say the major benefit of the 28's is the ease of tuning, and better throttle response, especially with the porting!!

I love my GROOVED turf tamers. I actually have a couple sets of them. You have to groove them though to get them to perform. Grooving doesn't take long. You basically get yourself a nice pair of cutters from the local hardware store and cut off about 30% of the lugs. If you decide to go this route, do a search on exriders for "grooved turf tamers" and you'll find a couple pics of some different patterns that people run.

If you're looking for a nice trail tire to run w/o any mods, then I'd recommend Kenda Klaws for ~$45 a tire from RMATV. I've also had very good luck with these and they wear like iron so you won't burn through them like a set of holeshots.

Another option are Fast Trekkers.
