Dave I.
Just got my first banshee not too long ago and made my first trip to the sand with it this weekend. I went to pismo beach in California. There was a 300-400 foot drag track that wasnt really that smooth to ride on but it served the purpose. It was flat for the most part with a rough area in the middle. I figure most of it was my lack of skill and experience but I didnt have much luck winning any races. I did a little better when I somewhat figured out how to launch. I started out trying to launch in 1st gear but it would just spin, so I started in 2nd gear and had to sit up on the tank to get some wheel spin at first. If it hooked in 2nd it would just bog. I have 20x10x10 8 paddle haulers. Any riding or launching suggestions? Id like to do some more work to the motor like porting and such. I want to keep it reliable and fun. I dont so much want an all out drag setup as much as I want something that is a lot of fun in the dunes and can hang with the new 4 strokes. Id like to stay 350 and stock jugs until it lets go, and then think about stepping up to a stroked cub. Mostly I realize that I just need to get out and learn to ride it but I know my current setup probably isnt much competition anyway. I have toomey t6, vforce 3 reeds and K&n pod filters. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Dave
dynodon
What gearing are you running ???? I would suggest, since you want to stay with "stock" cylinders, get a good dune port job. You can find one for a reasonable price from reputable peaple if you look. as far as the launch, GEARING is everything !! ALOT of factors there too ( kind of ground, sand dirt, wet, dry etc. etc.) but, to start I would probably try a 15/41 gearing, and leave in second. Thats with a dune port, Buts its all trial, and error. Everyone will tell you that. Good luck !!!
Dave I.
Thanks for the help Don. I have stock gearing right now. I pretty much figured the best way is to just go out and practice. Once I started getting off the line better I did ok. I will look into gearing. Who should I look at for a port job? Any site sponsors here port? Thanks Dave
dynodon
I was just reading over my post, and my fat fingers hit the wrong number, try a 14/41 a 15/41 is gonna be way too much
race-a-holic
Jeff's(f.a.s.t.) dune port runs extremely good.Porting will make a big difference. My friend has that porting, cpi in-frames,and stock carbs. It will run away from a piped 450. Then again,if the 450's have alot of work, they can be really strong. Geoff
I was just reading over my post, and my fat fingers hit the wrong number, try a 14/41 a 15/41 is gonna be way too much I thought 14/41 is stock? If it is I'd drop a tooth in the front or I know alot of people go up to either a 43 or 45 and throw on some 21's or 22's. If you want a good all around tire(not that you asked) I'd go with 10x8 in the back cuz you'd have less tire roll while riding around and it would handle a little better. I know alot of people will say I'm done for saying a 10 inch but not everyone likes riding around on 22x11x8's....I for one don't mind but I have friends who bring 2 sets just for that reason, dragging & duning. rocketboy
good reliable port work and higher static compression will be a huge difference for you
SoCalinIt
Jeff at FAST does some great work... All of his information is in my sig. If you want some porting from him, you should get your name put on his waiting list soon. You might want to trade those T6's for some T5's when you decide to port. The T5's take to porting very well. If you like a more top end bike, look at the Shearers, or CPI pipes. Those T6's have some great re-sale, so offing them and getting a new set of pipes will be really easy. As for your paddles, if you are really in the market to get some different paddles, I'd go up a size on the tire, and down two sizes on the wheel. I run some 22's on my cub, and I can dune just fine. If you keep going out to Pismo, I'm sure I'll see you out there. I'm in the same boat as bada450r, I only start going to Pismo once Dumont and Glamis gets too hot. Have some fun with that thing! See you at the strip!
