Light weight aluminum gas tanks

we haven't had any problems with ours breaking. I have a couple friends running them on a 20mm stroke drag bike and a triple cylinder drag bike. Both ran all weekend at Banshee Wars in Dumont without problems. These bikes vibrate harder than anything out there so if they are going to break that was the test. A lot of other people are building theres from a bunch of separate pieces all welded together. Our tanks are made from far fewer pieces so there is less weld and fewer areas to break. They were bent on a CNC press brake with proper tooling as opposed to using a hand brake that tends to put too much stress on the material when it is formed. This being said I don't think our tanks will break. If they do I'll send you out a replacement.

Ok many people have concerns about the history of aluminum tanks cracking. Here are our new mounts that come with our tanks. These mounts bolt directly into the frame and then the tank bolts to the mounts. The two bolts are separate from each other allowing slight movement in the tank so frame twist wont crack the tanks. All of our tanks come with these mounts and we also sell them separate for people having a hard time getting there tank to stay in one piece. http://ironrhinodesign.com/store/catalog/p...products_id=131post-24701-1173924834_thumb.jpg

This is probably a questions I should know the answer to, but I'm going to ask anyway. What is the advantage of using an aluminum tank like is pictured in this thread over using a stock tank? Is it primarily a weight issue or are there other reasons as well? :geek:

I always thought alcohol messed up aluminum is this true?

Yes it does. There are a few things that can be done to combat that though. You can either coat the inside of the tank with an aircraft sloshing sealer (like POR15) or you can have the tank anodized. The last thing that can be done is that if the aluminum the tank is made out if covered in the Alcoa AlCLAD venier, you can soak the tank in an industrial acid solution to seal the metal.
