im not the most knowledgeable person on this topic so you might need to clearify but the titanium bolts should cost well over 20 bucks for a set.... now are you saying 20 for the whole bike or what? id like to look into this becaseu titanium bolts are no fukin joke... those things have tensile strengths like no other...

Sorry, I should have explained this a bit better. You can do 99% of the bike with Ti fasteners from Boeing surplus, but there is a catch. The reason I said you need to take a set of thread gauges and a pair of calipers with you is that you are going to have to go there and sift through large commodity bins of floor sweepings. They sell you basically the equivalent of a gallon milk jusg of floor sweepings for between $5 and $20. You get to dip in the bin and fill your own container and they don't really care how long it takes you to do that, so you can basically sit there with others that seem to be doing the same thing and fill your bucket up with the best fasteners or exactly what you are looking for. It's sort of funny that there a bunch of guys that know the schedule of when Boeing puts new stuff out and they show up there really early to get first pickings. Having a rough list of the sizes of fasteners you need obviously will help.

The premise behind Boeing selling it's floor sweepings is that it costs them more money to have a work go find a bolt he dropped from the top of a plane than it is just to grab another one out of the box. At the end of the day, they sweep the floor, dump it in a bin, and then sell it at their surplus outlets. You find all sorts of fasteners, tools, brackets, wiring terminals, rivets, dirt, etc.

Firehead, or anyone else that knows, I got a question about fasteners...need a little instruction or a link to comparisons. Is titanium pretty much the ultimate bolt? Is there anything wierd about 'em I oughta know? I snapped my RH footpeg bolts the other day at a race at the end of a pretty mean whoop section, and I'm thinking I need to upgrade...at the very least the four footpeg bolts but I'll eventually go through as many as I can on the quad as I can afford 'em.

Should I invest in Ti and call it done? Would stainless be anywhere close in terms of tensile strength, cost, etc? Or should I just replace them like yearly with cheap 8.8 or 10.8 or whatever? (the ones that broke were a couple years old) I'm kinda hesitant to drill & tap them larger than 12mm, just because I'm not sure how much meat is there @ the frame (and both the frame & pegs are powdercoated)...but I would if I had to.

the ti bolts are pretty much the end all be all bolt... but if you where to buy them from a store single bolts and not how fire is saying... they are $$$ ti doesnt curood lik e many other bolts will so they are much ezer to extract when you havent taken a part off in a long time... also they have less tendancy of twisting the heads off... the reason they are on planes and missiles isnt for the reason they are stronger but its more of a insurance thing... if something happens with bolts breaking they are covered becasue they can throw out the fact that they used ti grade blah blah blah bolt....

ss are fine... but if i can get a whole bucket of all sizes for 20 bones with nuts washers bolts c clips you name it? im taking that path casue every garage needs a good bucket of backup or replacement bolts...

The people who work there have no idea what they have. Nothing has prices on it except for large items. It's all sold in bulk or by weight (example: endmills are $2 per pound). The bolts are in their floor sweeping bins where its sold in the same manner. They may not have Ti material that is sold outright as such since it has become a listed material in North America and the EU.

Alloyboltz wouldn't cut me a deal at ALL for ordering 3 kits for the polished bolts, 2 for a banshee and 1 for a YFZ.

I purchased three sets off "the fastener guy" off Ebay...they're polished, but not show polish.

So...I should have the bolt kits by the end of this week, and I'll let all know how they work out...
