Longer or shorter swing?

For MX racing is it better to SHORTER the swing or to have a LONGER swing?...ive been told that a longer swing make better control on air times...and that shorter swing make better traction

A shorter one will be better

You will corner better and get better traction with a shorter one. The only downside is that it isn't as stable at high speeds and the front end might pop up easier if your bike is juiced. A wider front and back end will help with the stability of the bike.

A longer one will get less traction and handle worse.

I have a -2 on mine and I love it and highly recomend it to you if you trail ride or mx

When people say less stable at high speeds they don't mean it's going to be rediculously bad like you're going to loose controle if you haul ass, it's only slightly effected. Not like you'll be hitting 70-80 on the track anyway, atleast not for any extended period of time. Chances are you will hardly notice the diffrence in high speed stability.

i recently got a -2 and love it. Before i just used to keep up with the pack now I shred them pretty easily. the cornering is soo much better, about like a 400ex now. and as far as jumping its much more balanced with the shorter swingarm not to mention lighter.

how unstable unstable at high speeds?

ps hollister did you used to go one project blaster?

I have looked at project blaster but I don't think I ever signed up

I am signed up on planetblaster although I have never owned a blaster. My girlfriend has one though.

Also I only noticed the unstable part the first day I rode but then I got used to it and I don't notice it now.

It really hooks up nice and corners well. GET ONE YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Definitely go shorter for MX use. On that note, I'll see if I can add a bit more to the discussion.

A longer swingarm will tend to make a bike fly nose heavy when jumping. You really ought not to be jumping a Banshee with more than a +4 swingarm. I say this based on the geometry of the rear shock and linkage not being able to properly retard the additional kinetic eneergy that is created via the leverage of the longer swingarm.
