I've raced T5s vs SSTs with the same gearing, timing, etc. and the one with the T5s would pull away in 6th WOT on pavement. The Banshee with SSTS was more responsive and seemed to get on the the pipe earlier than the T5s.

Carburetor jetting could have been a factor, as the one with the SSTs happened to be quite a bit leaner jetted on the main (260s, with a lid) than the one with T5s (350s, no lid). We never swapped pipes to see if it made any difference.

I don't doubt your comparison; just that that's not the way those 2 pipes seemed to me on those particular Banshees, other factors may have contributed to the difference in how the pipes reacted.

You are dead on. The sst's are way more of a midrange pipe than the fattys and the T5's....Jetting plays a huge role in how pipes pull. If not jetted right, someone can easily get misinterputed. I jetted a shee w/ sst's that pulled almost as hard as my shee w/ the pt mids.....fmf sst's pull hard w/ a 290 main, needle on the 4th clip w/ boysens and a 25 pilot w/ the air screw at around 1 turn out...The T5's need a 340 main, 25 pilot, and needle on the 5th clip...This is w/ stock porting and K&N filter.

As for dyno testing pipes, I wouldn't waste my time...Some pipes will yield a throttle response and smoother power delivery that will mean more than peak hp. Especially in the woods...Lightswitch powerband will only get you ahead in a long distance drag race..True testing is in the field and what will be great for one might not be for another.

I disagree with the DMC-916 pipes being good all around.

I also have a set of T-5 pipes on my other Banshee.

The DMC-916 is a very loud as hell top end only pipe in my opinion.

I just bought a new set from them and worry about those noise restrictions next year.

It seems that it only wants to scream out of the box and wants a heck of alot orf RPM for trails.

It will tear your ears off with the scream even with a spark arrester.

Now the T-5 pipes seem to be a mid to top end pipe as well.

Its just my opinion though.
