banshee scream
HI GUYS! I'M LOOKING TO GET A NEW SET OF PIPES. I AM IN BETWEEN FMF FATTYS AND GNARLYS, I DO MOSTLY TRAIL RIDING SO I KNOW THE GNARLYS ARE THE WAY TO GO BUT WILL THEY HURT MY TOP SPEED RATHER THAN THE FATTYS? MY BUDDYS AND I LIKE TO MESS AROUND DRAG RACING AND THEY ALL HAVE RAPTORS AND 440S AND I'LL BE DAMNED TO LOSE TO THAT SHIT!!!! I DONT HAVE ANY MAJOR MODS DONE, JUST REEDS. RIGHT NOW I HAVE DG (DOLLAR GENERAL) PIPES AND THEY SUCK ASS!!! ALSO SHOULD I CHANGE MY SPROCKET SIZES OR SHOULD I LEAVE THEM STOCK? I'M NOT SURE HOW SPROCKET SIZE EFFECTS PERFORMENCE. ANY INFO WILL BE VERY HELPFUL!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Banchetta
You do mostly trail riding, get the gnarly's....You won't lose enough performance in a drag to talk about. The gnarly's will actually pull harder off the line then the fattys, but the fatty's will pull harder in 5th and 6th gear....You'd have to race more than 1000' for the fatty to outperform....all the drags we do are usually 300, 500 or 1000'...I've always won with my ptr mids....they are a midrange pipe. High rev doesn't mean high horsepower. It just moves the peak power to a higher rpm. Your lower rpms range is where you'll be mostlly at when your trail riding and your shee will be night and day for power delivery. You won't regret it, you'll just have to trust me and maybe some others on here that have them. As for your gearing, go w/ a 15/41 or 15/40 gearing w/ 20" or 21" tires...gearing up will INCREASE performance...the shee is geared close so gearing down will only hurt you. Trails and dragging. olmick
ive never rode a banshee with dg pipes, but i do remember seeing a post somewhere when dirt wheels did a dyno shootout on all the pipes then, and i do remember that the dg's had the most horsepower out of all the pipes they had on the dyno, maybe you could just take your dough that your spending on gnarlys, and maybe get you a mx/trail port or other boltons, i think you would be happier with a port instead of the fmfs

I dont think that the pipes are going to be a night and day difference that your looking for. Get it ported now, and then when your all done buying mods that you dont already have then try a different set of pipes.

06BaNsHeE
I had CPIs,+4 timing,Milled head, and 16t sprocket the last time I raced my friends 700 with a trinity pipe,Filter, and a cherry bomb I think and I beat him on top end.I start passing him on 3rd gear and keep pulling on him
njbanshee
If your not mx your bike i wood go for a set of cpi's and if not that buy some toomeys. Don't bother with crapy fmf pipes.
Tim C
Like olmick said don't expect a big difference in power if any between the DG's and the FMF's. If you go with the Gnarlys you will probably lose some topspeed because they're a midrange pipe but you will definitly gain on the bottom end. The Fatty's will have about the same topend as the DG's and is a very good all around pipe similar to Toomey pipes. If your set on FMF pipes I would go with the Fattys unless your going to MX the bike want bottom end and not concerned with the top end power.
