banshee40391
ok ive been reading a quite a bit on here the last few days and figured i would leave it to the pro's im trying to make my mind up on what to do ive got a 1989 j-arm banshee with a loose ball joint i need to replace the j-arm and everything i have found is high in price would i better myself switching over to a-arm frame whats the ride and performance diff. between the two ? i have found a a-arm frame and a-arms for $200.00 and the j-arms ive found they want around $100.00 for just the arms would you go with the frame and arms ? or just replace the bad j-arm? thanks
EastCoast Banshee
If the a-arm frame is in good condition id say go with the a-arm frame. This also ensures that in the future you'll be able to find replacement a-arms a lot easier or if you wanna upgrade to wider a-arms.
xLastShotx
I have an 1989 Banshee, the J-arms were alright I used them for a few months but the I had someone convert my bike to an A-Arm bike so I could upgrade the suspension. The A-Arms are way better, much stronger they just feel more responsive. I say convert your J-Arm Banshee to a A-Arm Banshee and put some 2+1 A-Arms on it. woodro77
a guy i went riding with once had a j-arm banshee and was jumping it and a j-arm snapped and the quad flipped and he spiral fractured his femur . he was in the hospital for 2 weeks and out of work for 6 months and we were 8 hours from home , riding in another state . he still doesnt walk right and i end up buying his banshee for 400 bucks and doing a a-arm frame swap . its not worth it, for guys duning or dragging j-arms are probably fine but if you go and jumping or hard riding i would get rid of them and go to a- arm. btw i have a 97 a-arm frame for sale

phx450
True. My drag banshee goes up the hill thats it. The only bumps it sees are on and off the trailer. Lighter weight too. I used to jump the J-arm banshees as a kid never had a problem, but never probably going that high. Imo if you are hardcore riding, jumping, track , etc go for the A-arms. If you are a duner or not so much of a racer go J-arms. Mine are sweet Chrome one offs and i think they look a ton better.

phx450
A ton of companies make aftermarket J's. But your right for the money why bother. I would just sell the bike and buy a 90s model. My 87 takes the whoops no problem though at the dunes! No doubles or triples at the track though, i have the yfz 450 for that! Its like trying to make a race car out of a station wagon.........with enough parts and modifications you could make it work buy why? banshee40391
ive decided to just replace my bad j arm for the time being as money is tight but i have found a nice str8 a arm frame with the a arms for $200 so im gonna get it a little later down the road and switch it all over i dont race or jump it i just hit the woods and ride the trails so for now it looks like replacing the j arm is my best bet for a few months till the money pics up some( disability sucks)
