Affordable shock options

Hey everyone,

Just looking for some opinions on relatively cheap shock options.

 

How would works dual rate No/res compare to YFZ shocks, obviously the YFZ shocks would be better suited for motocrossing where they would be less likely to fade.

 

Also what in your opinion are the works triple rate no rezzys, like? anyone have them?

 

and last but not least Works dual rate with rezzy VS YFZ, they would be quite comparable in my opinion, but i've never rode either, they just appear that way.

 

These would be likely to go on +2+1 arms down the road, if YFZ's are the top pic they'd be going on arms that would be suitable and not rub, quicksand,sanddraggon etc.

 

Thanks for any input, only care to know what you've guys with experience think.

i have works trips WITH rez on front and works rez on rear... they are good shocks... and muich cheaper then elka fox axis and all the others brand that are charging 1200 bucks for shocks...

 

polish had the dual rate no rez on his and he rode the shit out of his bike... never heard him complain about them...

Ive never had expirence with the YFZ shocks on a Banshee. I rode a YFZ and they were pretty nice but its hard for me to compare for the 20 minutes I did ride it compared to the countless hours Ive spent riding other peoples bikes with Works shocks. The Works definatly do the trick over stock anyday but compared to the Elkas and Axis they are really stiff shocks. They are not as plush but it costs alot more for that and if your duning unless all you do is travle over rough whoops sections the Works should do the trick. The Elka e36s non adjust non rezzie are moderatly priced. I can get them cheaper than any Elka shock I have seen on the internet thats for sure. Ill probably be getting them for this season untill I can come up with the money for the Elite PB36CR Rider hight adj. shocks. But I ride hard trails.

I think it's the quad rates. I had these on my shee for maybe a year, and they worked awesome.

some are trip some are quad....

 

 

 

i got my TCS's today and there dual rate...i called a was gonna bitch but i was told they arent long enough to have a trip rate setup

 

 

 

 

other then that these shocks are kick ass!!!

even though whole setup new fronts and converted dual rate rear stocker was $1230.00

 

well worth the investment IMO :thumbsup:

i killed two sets of stock shocks in two days at the track ( had one set bend in 90 deg angle and broke one in half on the second set) i bought a used set of works tripple rate with rezzs set up for a 160 lb trail riding off ebay and ran the piss off them at the track for going on two years now and never had a single problem, just think how great they would be if they were set up for my weight and riding style!!

I have never ridden YFZ shocks on a Banshee, but I have spent a lot of time on a YFZ450. I personally think the YFZ450 shocks are way to stiff... mind you I only ride in the sand, so the YFZ shocks might be great for an MX track. I have a set of Works dual rate without the rezzies on the front with LSR +2 +1 arms, and I think they are great! I also have a dual rate TCS shock with rez on a +6 CFM swing arm, and it feels like a champ! It's all in what you do man!

I believe that for the money, you can't beat Works. I recommend them without hesitation, and yes they have sponsored me for the last two years, but I was running their stuff and very happy with it for several years before that. So I might be a little biased in opinion heh, but I can say for sure that they are great guys to deal with (Oscar in service hooked me up with several springs for free, Donna gave me sponsorship, etc.). I paid $345 for triple rates back in '01, I ran them hard (including desert races) and had them rebuilt and revalved last year; not becuase I broke 'em but because I wanted to get them a little stiffer and the front end a little higher for big whoops. While they were there I had them put on a pair of rezzys, and they set me up with some finned billet units that were used but looked perfect, for next to nothing. I'm more than happy with them, and hopefully soon I'll be upgrading to some of their custom fronts and getting a heart transplant done on the rear.

 

Anyway my advice would be to get the Works, the best you can afford (another cool thing about 'em is you got lotsa options, from dual rate A-T Steelers up to Black Widows and Pro-G's). Nothing against Elka, Axis and the others, well except I wouldn't ever be able to buy their shit unless I sold a kidney, but if ya got the Works you can always either sell them and get close to what you paid for them, or upgrade them later (like triple rate springs or chrome springs or add rezzys or just revalve to suit you).

This is excellent advice! IMO By the time you put the money into the YFZ shocks to make them ride well, you can have set of Works shocks that perform just as well. much sooner. As I have said in other threads, I only run YFZ shocks on the front of my bike because I got them for free, they work well, and I am a cheap and lazy bastard. YFZ shocks are pretty much ridiculously over priced these days as well. :thumbsup:
