banshee364
Hey guys. I am having some problems with my tranny. First of all, I can't get it to shift above second gear and it is hard to get into neutral. There also seems to be alot of play in the shift shaft itself before it will engage either up or down. The shifting from 1st to 2nd is rough and difficult. Any ideas where I should start? Thanks for all of your help. Kevin
bigboybanshee
I'm no transmission pro by far but it sounds like you could have bent your shift forks somehow, you may have to go ahead and split the cases and check everything out. I'm sure someone else will chime in though and might be able to advise you better
dajogejr
Pull off the clutch side of the motor, and get a clymers. It will tell you how to properly adjust the shifter. If it's close or in adjustment, yep...case splitting time to check for worn or broken parts.

banshee364
So, I pulled off the side case today and guess what I found? A broken shift shaft adjustment bolt! Will this give me the problems I am having, or is this just the beginning?
yamaha04
So, I pulled off the side case today and guess what I found? A broken shift shaft adjustment bolt! Will this give me the problems I am having, or is this just the beginning? well im no pro either but this could be the problem or the problem could still be inside and broke the bolt because of it. i would try and fix the bolt then go for a rip and see what t is then. if its fix then you saved yoursef alot of work
Banchetta
So, I pulled off the side case today and guess what I found? A broken shift shaft adjustment bolt! Will this give me the problems I am having, or is this just the beginning? Are you talking about the bolt in which is inbetween the fork spring? Or shift star center bolt? The shift star center bolts are known to come loose and need thread lock....as for the other. I've never seen that. Any pics??
banshee364
I put it all back together and am still having the problems. So, now I am going to split the cases and pull the tranny apart. I have never worked on a tranny before. Is this a feasible task for me, or do I need to take it in? I feel comfortable doing it. Just want to know if I am going to fuck something up before I go tearing shit apart. Let me know guys. All help is appreciated. 'Shee has been sitting for 2 months. I need to get this thing going. If you need some pics, let me know and I can get them.
jlsparky7
I replaced the trans on my R6 and the only thing I had done prior to that is an oil change. It is really simple once you get it all apart you can see how everything works and more than likely see hte problem. Give it a shot. If its all ready messed up you dont need to worry about messing it up
