Hello everyone

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say hi to everyone out there, introduce myself, and tell a "laugh so you don't cry" kind of story. I've been a member since late summer when I finally bought a new 'shee (I was without an atv since I sold my last 'shee in '99). I'm from Wisconsin, and I've was looking forward to getting out on the snow and ice since I picked my machine up from the dealer. We finally got enough snow to play right around christmas, so I went to my brother-in-law's to go for a ride. I warmed the 'shee up with a couple laps around the yard, then got off to go see what was taking him so long in the garage. Halfway there I slipped on the ice and heard a pop in my knee :banghead: . 3 fractures in the joint, and I'll be on crutches until the snow is gone and the mud is plentiful. :) Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, and thanks to those who gave me advice and help in the fall.

Damn, that's some shitty luck right there! When you said you had a fracture in the joint, what exactly does that mean? Reason I ask is because I had a lot of trouble out of my knee last year and it felt like it would pop out, and then back in, but was sore for a while afterwards...to the point it was painful to walk. I wonder if maybe I fractured something small.

Glad to hear you got back on a banshee, I just picked up another one myself!

big boy your knee sounds like a ligament tear , when you start losing stability in your knee its a bad sign. i have had 2 surgery's on my knee, acl replacement (dead guys ligament put in me ) and screws, along with torn cartilage , i poped me knee out playing football got it fixed and then ripped it apart again racing motorcross, knee injurys suck. im 30 years old and my doctor is talking about total knee replacement.

when i first started having trouble with me knee i would twist the wrong way and it would feel like it was going to pop out and then i would limp for a couple days and then it would be ok for a while . my advise to anyone with knee trouble is get it looked at because the longer you Waite the worst it gets and the more damage you do.

a bad knee will trouble you your whole life.

thumper i hope you fell better soon , 3 fractures in the joint , that must have hurt like a mother f er

That sounds exactly like what happened to me...every time it happened I was out riding and it would twist, pop out, then pop back in and would hurt like hell for several days, then slowly get better. I guess I should go ahead and have it checked out, what kind of specialist should I go to, or should I go to a reg. doctor and have them recommend a particular type of doctor?

Thanks for the help woodro, this problem has always been in the back of my mind, hoping it wouldn't get worse...but it happened 3 times last year

Those symptoms mimick a number of things. I dealt with mine for about 3yrs till I continued to injure it as it was easy to keep doing. Was a miniscal tear, 1 hour laporascopic fix back to 100%. Travis, a lot of Orthopedic docs will see you without a refferal. Talk to your PCP and see who he recommends then call the Ortho doc for an appointment. They will get an MRI and discuss what the problems is and fix from there.

sometimes they can fix it with physical therapy if its not to bad, go to your reg doctor and ask him who he recommends , and go to the best doctor you can , my doctor is 45 minutes from my house but he's really good, all he does is knee's . he is the doctor for the NFL , does all the New York JETS and GIANTS players , it was pretty cool doing my rehab right next to all these famous NFL stars.

Thumper...

I'm glad to hear you got a new Banshee, and welcome to the HQ.

Sorry to hear about your knee though. I have had a lot of knee problems from football, baseball, soccer, and a few on my previous MX dirt bikes. They are nothing to mess around with, keep off of it, and heal up right. I have the bones, and muscles as 50 year old in a body of a 26 year old... Not good!

BigBoy...

Get that checked out soon... I always see my orthopedist, and physical therapy person for any injury, but you might need to go to your doctor to get it written off.

Get er

I'm 37 now with a back of a fifty year old. I've had back surgey and now I try to listen to what my body is telling me. You might want to do the same. Wer'e not getting any younger, take care of yourself. gipperz

Thanks for the support everyone. My knee has a "tibial plateau fracture" and a possible miniscus tear. The weight bearing surface of the lower leg bone got too much pressure in one spot and shattered. The MRI looks like a windshield that had a rock hit it but the bone all stayed right where it belongs. I'm 27, and the doctor spent more time telling me about the arthritis in that knee and knee replacement by 50 than he spent telling me about what I have broken now. I had 3 knee surgeries in high school, and the doctor then told me I would need my knee replaced by 25...aparently I've earned another 25 years since then.

Merrill is in north central Wisconsin, very close to Wausau, if you have any idea where that is....if not draw a line straight north from madison and straight west from Green Bay, and that's where I am. Middle of nowhere, but some great riding. We should definately try to get together this summer once I heal up some.
