Blue Duece Posted February 1, 2007 Report Share Posted February 1, 2007 ive cut a few, its pretty easy, if you measure twice and cut once, i posted a few pages on how to do it last year....... search maybe you can find it, a guy on here "MR.Matt" cut this one for me and bondoed the welds and painted it.......i think i sent him the stock arm and paid him 200 bucks and i think 50 of it was a tip cause he worked his ass off bondoing the welds, cutting them is not hard you need to make a jig so the swinger stays good and square when you weld it.......if i have to ill type the whole thing again if you cant find it, it could be stronger than stock depending how sharp the welder is........ill post a pic in a new thread ATT: Washburn...and you can check it out........ Washburn Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 1, 2007 I am going to take a link out and put a half link in and adjust it so its -1 for now then when I get my suspention I will have an extra swingarm cut -2. Problem is I dont have a roundhouse carrier and I dont want to Dog Walk. My LT250R used to do that all of the time and I couldent stand it. I searched for about a half hour. Do you remember the title of the thread or any phrases that the search might pick up. I dont want to hasstle you to type it all over again. I do appricate any help you give me thats for sure. I figure why not cut my stocker for a few hundred less than a brand name. Im not one to pay for things so my quad looks like the badest machine out there I need it to preform as the baddest machine out there for as little as I can get away with spending. Blue Deuce, what about cutting the other end of the swingarm? where its welded on the pivot. Tell me what you think, i think it could be easier with less cutting and less welding and in doubt we can had gusset, just an idea, dont know if its doable i need to have one in hand to think about it more. Blue Duece Posted February 2, 2007 Report Share Posted February 2, 2007 it sounds like locco has it dialed in he's right you have to cut it past the shock linkage(between the shock and the carrier) if he does them for a hundred bucks thats the way to go cause it is a little bit of work.............send locco your arm have him shorten it when you get it back bondo his welds and sand them out then paint or powder coat it........since Lee changed the software to this site ive yet to figure out how to post a pic if i could i would show you all what a nice cut looks like, most guys cutting them or making them longer do get a nicer , stronger weld than the stock weld, ive snaped stock swingers and stock axles so there not all that............you CANNOT CUT THE SWINGARM AT THE SWING ARM TO FRAME CONNECTION, IT HAS TO BE PAST THE SHOCK, between the shock mount and rear axle carrier, your rear shock will not work and you could suffer great bodily harm and/or face death off of jumps, but if your riding MX, Trails, Climbing hills, youll love the -2 it hooks great Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ive never so much as Held a welder and I need it to be extra extra strong. Im sending it to Loco. I know what you mean about snaping axles. I snapped 2 in the same riding location in one months time on 2 diffrent bikes. Never hurt a swingarm though. I guess my guy has a powdercoater lined up cause he has his stuff PCed and Ive seen coustomers bikes in his shop PCed but if its more than 100 for the swingarm forget about it. What is the metal the swingarm is made of? when i cut a stock swingarm i just mig weld them back. i also clean up some of the stock nonsense on them. so they look better after i work on them. stock swingarms are just mild steel as far as i can tell. i dont really even like stock swingarms because of the carrier mainly. i really recommend everyone to go to roundhouse style. they are much more sturdy and reliable. ive had tabs bend on stock swingarms before that hold the carrier. my roundhouse swingarms i build are tig welded.
