Muller857
I have fmf goldseries pipes with stock silencers, what are my options for new silencers, and will it make a big difference in power? thanks guys
Bansh-eman
silencers dont make the power for your pipes... the pipe its self is where the design is to make the power... i want to say fattys will fit powercore2 and turbinecore... but im not 100% Edited January 30, 2007 by Bansh-eman
Muller857
Are the stock silencers taking away from performance?
theshee
No, the power on a two stroke comes from the head pipe, not the silencer. Its the shape, size of the head pipe that does it for a two stroke..

Ya, i understand how the pipe itself works, but is the stock yamaha silencer taking away from what i could have with any aftermarket? seems like mufflers on a car, sometimes they do alot, somtimes they are setup good stock. and i kinda dont like the look of stock, so i guess i want some new ones but dont know what will fit. theshee
You can change them for the look but you wont get any power difference. The reason mufflers help cars and 4 strokes is becasue they are so full of stuff. They have horrible restriction, therefore cutting performance down. There isnt anything in the stock silencer that hurts how it runs, but I agree, they are ugly, nice shiney ones are way better!
Bansh-eman
actually you might gain a very small amount becasue the stockers have a spark arrestor built in so by replacing them you should get a small amount better flow then you have now but your not going to be getting a whiplash effect by changing it out by any means

jbooker82
You could run FMF Power Core 2's, If you need a spark arrested silencer you could run FMF Turbine Core 2's, If you need a quiet silencer you could run FMF The Q. FMF's Titanium 2 is supose to be a shorty style silencer so that would be a little louder. FMF Racing Silencer LINK I dont know if there is other brands of silencers that you can run with your fmf pipes. josh
Banchetta
You can run any silencer that will fit the stock header. I know the ptr and fmf will fit, not sure about others, but if you can buy just the silencer for the stock header, then it'll fit the fmf headers. As for performance, there is a possibility that it'll gain. I went to Silver Lake and need spark arrestors on my shee, so I put the stock silencers on and my shee fell on its face. I'm also running a stroker, but still. I was very surprised. You'll also lose about 5-7 pounds of weight.
