cam2
i've read a little about overide trannies and i understand the difference between a duneable overide and non dunable. but what i'm not really clear on is why some people choose a 1-5 instead of a 2-5 and vice versa. what advantage does one have over the other? does one choose 1-5 or 2-5 depending on if it's a dunable or non dunable? i've heard of a nuetral down and i was wondering what the advantage of this is? Malott 1
The 1-5 is going to give you some more options on gearing. I think alot of the guys who race on asphault run the 1-5. I run the 2-5 and love it. The neutral down is just easier to find. I know on mine it was cut for stock position and I wish it would have been a neutral down. Because I have a hard time hitting neutral. I solved that by removing first gear completely this last time I tore it down to check it out. One thing you want to remember is if you aren't full out drag racing you really should think about the dunable overide. If you happen to let out off the throttle with the drag overide without pulling the clutch in you take a big risk of blowing the tranny up. You can let off in 5th gear but any other gear you will back load that transmission and it will be time to split the cases and put a new one in. wesw
2-5 you have to play with gearing. 22 tall tires you might have to gear lower so you dont bog. i fyou run 20s you can gear up a bit. might youif your just draggin you wont be changing tires. 1-5 you can run a decent gearing and not bog. less sprockets to change and play with. its must what kind of riding you do. and what your willing to play with and deal with. Bansh-eman
also alot of the bigger motor run 2-5 cause they launch in 2nd and never see first... so they get a billet 2nd and go from there...
cam2
i'll definitely be getting a duneable. i have a 421 cub on gas, 35mm pwk's, in frame shearers, etc, etc. i'll be running 22x11x8 10 paddle extreme's for now (because i got a killer deal). this shee is a play bike with an occassional drag race, it will be more of a play bike. what to get? is there much of a price difference between 1-5 and 2-5? i'll assume not. what does a billet 2nd gear usually cost? Malott 1
A billet 2nd gear is probably going to be around 200. But honestly your stock gear will take alot of abuse. If you was putting alot of power on it then I would tell you it was a must. But I have seen 18 mills and big crankers running stock gears. wesw
get a 1-5 and if you dont like it start in sec. or whatever more options that way.
njbanshee
I just bought a duneable 1-4 with a manual 5th and 6th. Oh and nuetral is all the way down. Now i can never hit nuetral in a race again. Its an all out drag bike, but its not limited to just dragen. I can't wait to try it out. Call Jeff at fast racing for some help. He explained everything till i chose what i wanted.

Cam... Had the SAME exact motor. Plus a dyna and nology on the ignition side. Bone stock tranny....left in second gear over a hundred times at the 300ft drag strip, and plenty at the dunes last year. Also had similar tires (mine weren't extremes) on a 6 over arm. You're gonna have a fun bike to ride, wheelie at will!! I agree...unless you're going HUGE...billet 2nd isn't needed. That being said, 1-5 with nuetral down is the way to go, duneable. Whitaker Racing does a lot of dunable overrides. They will tell you you still shouldn't let the bike slow down using the tranny/compression...but, if you let off the gas without pulling in the clutch, it is more forgiving. Also...You can downshift it as well...without having to come to a near stop.

cam2
you hear c&r sand drags is no more moved to bithlo (orlando) nope, this is the first that i heard of it. i'm not surprised though. jeff and the boys put a lot of time and effort into C&R, but they were restricted as far as the scheduling of the dates because of the property only being opened once a month, for the most part. i bet the "necks" are gettin' with it tonight down there with TRACY LAWRENCE being concert.
